A bit from Impact emulator's history...
Impact became the most important event in the emulation world from the day when UltraHLE came out. This is the first and only emulator of the Capcom ZN-1 & ZN-2 game systems that are being used in the arcade mashines. These systems are famous by their nice 3D graphics and surround sound made by QSound technology. That's why the appearence of this emulator couldn't passed unseen.. Impact became an important even becase the first released version was working almost perfectly and could run 6 games, among them were Street Fighter EX and Rival Schools. Besides that, a very good structure of the emulator was chosen. Impact was made on plug-ins technology and consists of emulator itself and 2 additional plug-ins - graphics output (renderer) plug-in and input controller (controller) plug-in. Each of the plug-ins can be realized separately from its authors and emulator to everyone. There are only 2 plug-ins included in the release - one is an OpenGL renderer and other is one player only controller. Some time later after the release plug-ins for Glide and Direct3D were made so now Impact is working fine on any of the videocards. And also few controller plug-ins were made to support 2 players. The 2-nd player can use ether keyboard, or joystick. So from the moment of the release, Impact gave to the gamers all they wanted - very cool games with nice grapics and hardware support. All what was left was the waiting of the next version with more compatibility. And it was released. New version of Impact was released about 2 weeks after the first release with the code name "build 3116". And it was the cause of the project closing. The thing is that this version was released without the authorisation of its authors. The legend says that the authors didn't wanted to release public version of this emulator supporting the games, that came out after 1998 and have been using till nowadays bringing to Capcom their money. So that's why they've made short public version with the old games support. But one of the beta testers have decided to bring it to public use. So, "build 3116" supports 4 additional games. Among them are super HIT Street Fighter EX 2 Plus! And these game look just fine. Maybe, the authors didn't want to have troubles with Capcom and have closed the project quickly. It's a pity.

System requirements: Windows9X, WindowsNT, good 3D video, 64Mb RAM (128Mb recommended).
For the most of the games PII 450 CPU will be enough. For Street Fighter EX, Street Fighter EX 2, Street Fighter EX 2 Plus! and Toshinden 2 you'll need minimum PII500.

Some recommendations on using the emulator.
      1) Use renderer that better fits to your videocard. For TNT and GeForce - OpenGL renderer, and for 3dfx VooDoo - Glide renderer, and D3D renderer for the rest.
      2) The emulator can work with the arhieved games, but if you want to have more speed while playing, you should unpack them. The names of the folders for the games are stated in readme.txt
      3) If the game's running slow, press PageUp. This will enable frame skipping. The moves of players won't be so smooth, but faster. You can gain some speed if you turn off the music.

      Emulator itself

      Filename Description
Impact Release (180Kb) The first and only release. Attention: doesn't support all the games (read below).
Impact Build 3116 (143Kb) This is unofficial beta. It supports 4 additional games: Street Fighter EX 2, Street Fighter EX 2 Plus, Tetris The Grand Master and Star Gladiator 2.
Board Rom (BIOS) (49Kb) System BIOS. The emulator won't work without it. It should be placed in the root dir with games.
MFC 4260 (617Kb) If you'll be having problems with the emulator, unpack these files to the emulator's dir.

      Controller plug-ins

      Filename Description
Semi's DirectInput controller (13Kb) Good controller. Maybe the best. Has 2 player support, joystick support. Uses DirectInput. Works fast and reliable. In case of troubles disable "Operate in background".
Semi's DirectInput controller v1.3 (20Kb) New version of controller from Semi. Better than previous.
Dij Controller (14Kb) Another one controller. Has 2 player support. But veeery unstable.

      Renderers for the emulator

      Filename Description
D3D renderer (69Kb) If you are not happy with standart OpenGL, try this. He is written by the Impact authors. Requires DX7 and works fine.
Glide renderer (66Kb) The best choice for 3dfx owners. Written by Impact authors. Works fast and reliable. Copy and play.
Lewpys Glide renderer (78Kb) Another Glide renderrer. Was written for PSEmu Pro, but somehow it works for Impact. It is told, that it works faster than standard. Don't know 'bout faster, but not so reliable. Well maybe you like it. Rename gpuLewGlide.dll into controller.ipc
OpenGL renderer for TNT cards (95Kb) Another renderrer for PSEmu Pro, somehow works in Impact. To be used with TNT videocards. Rename gpuPeteTNT.dll into controller.ipc .
Impact renderers switcher (614Kb) Do u want to experiment with different renderers? Well then it's for you. It can easily switch between 12(!) renderers.

      CFG for the emulator
Configs have options, that helps the emulator running games with the best possible way.
Just unpack into [cfg] folder (without []), which is situated in emulator folder.

      Filename Description
Psychic Force (1Kb) Config for Psychic Force
Rival Schools (1Kb) Config for Rival Schools. Adds cheats to the game. See readme.txt
Rival Schools 2 (1Kb) Another cfg for Rival Schools.
Street Fighter EX (1Kb) Config for Street Fighter EX
Street Fighter EX Plus (1Kb) Config for Street Fighter EX Plus
      Toshinden2 (1Kb) Konfig for Toshinden2
