Default [GUIDE] ePSXe setup-

This is a guide to setup ePSXe, a emulator that enables you to play PlayStation/PS1 games on your computer.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Getting started::
------------------------------------------------------------------
Download ePSXe from HERE
Create a new folder on your computer where you would like the emulator to be and name it to your liking.
Put the epsxe170.zip you just downloaded into the new folder you made and right click it and select EXTRACT HERE.
You can delete the epsxe170.zip afterwards.
If you do not see the extract here option on the menu when you right click the zip file download and install WinRAR
------------------------------------------------------------------
Installing Pugins::
------------------------------------------------------------------
Video Plugins::
Go HERE
The page has requirements to use the plugins so choose your plugin wisely!.
If you need help to determine which one you need to use just make a new post and ask.
Whatever you decide on download it to the plugins folder in the ePSXe directory then right click the file and select extract here.
You can delete the zip file afterwards.
==========
Optional Video Effects::
The Pixel Shaders offer a VERY nice game enhancement if your video card supports it.
==========
Sound Plugins::
Go HERE
Choose your plugin and download and extract it to the plugins folder in your ePSXe directory.
==========
CDR Plugins::
Go HERE
Download and extract it to the plugins folder in your ePSXe directory.
You now have all the required plugins and you can configure ePSXe.
------------------------------------------------------------------
ePSXe Configuration::
------------------------------------------------------------------
Start ePSXe, double click ePSXe.exe
Bios Configuration::
The most important thing is that you need a BIOS. Sadly we can not help you at all on where to obtain one.
DO NOT even ask us please!
Just search HERE and you'll find tons.
For those that are ready click Config>Bios and select your bios and press Ok.
==========
Video Configuration::
Click Config>Video and select Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9 and press configure.
You will then see a big screen with a bunch of stuff to configure.
If you have at least 1 GB of ram XP, 3 GB for Vista and a Geforce 7+ series video card (excluding built in) you can use the configuration shown in the screen shot.

If you notice I start in window mode. To swap to full screen just press ALT+ENTER.
==========
Special Game Fixes::

I only check something here if there is a game that requires it.
Press Ok once done and lets move on.
==========
Sound Configuration::
Click Config>Sound and choose Eternal SPU Plugin 1.41
All I've ever used is the configuration shown in the screen shot:

Once done press Ok and lets move on.
==========
Cdrom Configuration::
Click Config>Cdrom and choose P.E.Op.S. CDR Driver 1.4 then click Configure.
I use the configuration shown in the screen shot.

Once done press Ok and lets move on.
==========
ISO Configuration::
I have the Cdrom set on Null Driver.
To make your own ISO insert a PlayStation game in a drive on your computer.
Download and install Alcohol 120%
Link
Look at screen shots for the rest.
Part 1::

Part 2::

Once the ISO is made you can close alcohol.
==========
Controller Configuration::
Click Config>Game Pad>Pad 1. You can either use keyboard or a game pad with ePSXe.
From the configuration screen just click and select what you want mapped to where.
Once done press ok.
==========
Memcard Configuration::
I see that the download did not come with any so I'll attach 2 to the boards.
Download and extract to the memcards folder in your ePSXe directory:
MemCards
Starting your game::
Cd users insert your disc. Start ePSXe go to File>RunCDROM your game should start.
ISO users, start ePSXe go to File>RunISO and select your ISO the game should start.
Advanced In game settings::
Quick Saves
You have 5 quick save slots on each game.
The buttons are:
F1 Saves a state.
F2 Moves to the next save slot.
F3 Restores selected save state.
Fine Tune Your Settings
The screen shot tells all:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
ePSXe Extras::
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Using Cheats with ePSXe.
PEC (pcx emulation cheater).
Official Site
MIRROR
Look for [pec] plugin v2.5 and download and install it to your ePSXe directory.
To enable it start ePSXe choose Config>Video, from the menu choose psx emulation cheater 2.5 and then press configure, you now have to choose your video plugin again.
Once done press Ok.
If your playing from disc you can use the "Jump to game in drive" option.
You can also edit and add cheats.
They added a User Database feature by pressing F3 but I prefer to add them to the actual codelist.inf in the main directory.
I use Ultra Edit 32 to edit the file with.
I have found from first hand experience that Code Breaker has the most awesome codes.
To view the codes you will have to create a account with the site but doing so is free.
A more indepth guide on [pec] can be found Here
-
Tools Download:: Put all the files in the main directory of ePSXe.
Download
Comes with------
ePSXeCutor::
A very nice Frontend and Configuration Utility for ePSXe.
-
ePSXeLauncher::
A Frontend for ePSXe that starts the emulator. It includes shortcuts to common used menu options, cool GUI design, ultra tiny size, works with all versions of ePSXe, it isn't a replacement to ePSXe. Also accepts command line switches. Has Memory Card Manager, PEC & PECEdit and allow customizable tools (if you edit ePSXeLauncher.ini) and more. Just place the ePSXe Launcher in the same directory of ePSXe.
-
MemManager::
A memory card manager that allows you to convert a card to many types.
-
PecEdit::
Used for adding/editing codes for [pec].
-
PSXGameEdit::
Another very powrfull memory card manager.
-
ePSXe Snapviewer::
You can take screen shots by pressing F8.
This is just a nifty utility you can use.
Run SnapViewer.exe and set your paths.
-
The Delta Project::
Another very nice frontend tool.
Delta Site
-------------------------
Conclusion::
-------------------------
This covers your basic setup for ePSXe.
You should now be able to play your game using ePSXe for your disc or either ISO.
This topic will be closed for discussion, if you're still having problems getting a game working please post it in a new topic.
I will add more or might edit some details later.
