Hoshi wo Miru Hito: This is a very early FC RPG (1987), apparently about a computer causing environmental damage (or so I could gather from babelfishing Japanese pages). Looks kinda good from the ads I've seen, might attempt a small graphics (mostly palettes) hack (what happened between ad making and the game's publishing? It'll post some comparison shots here) on this and a boost to the character's walking speed (hopefully, it's as simple as boosting the scrolling speed. This is probably the game's biggest gameplay problem). Any objections? Any translation takers?
The dialouge script is about 8KB in various places in the ROM (85 files, totaling 16KB in SJS format), so it's not a very long one. Thanks. |

Hi there. First of all, I wanted to say I think it's really cool that you made a translation patch for this game. Having played and beaten that fan remake, I picked up both this game's ROM and your translation patch just to try it out! Anyway, I had noticed in your initial post you had said you wanted to possibly change the graphics a bit, though that seems to have ended up falling to the wayside. Well, after surfing the web a little, I found this: http://www.saturn.dti.ne.jp/~dastard/psy/star-omk.htm
The patch not only improves the graphics, but also balances out the game, meaning weapons and armor are cheaper, enemies are easier to defeat, and graphics are MUCH prettier. Also, as it turns out, your English patch works with the game... sort of. I had to apply the translation first (yeah, I got it working. Error on my part. Heh.), but when I talk to that lady who heals your characters, the game (for some reason) resets to the title screen. I also noticed that some of the test is messed up in some places. Anyway, I was just curious if you had any intent on releasing a finished patch at some point in the far future... you're probably very busy, so don't think I'm forcing you or anything. I was just curious as to the patch's future. |

I think as I recall, the issue was that about half the battle text isn't translated (and is kinda scattered throughout the ROM).
Also, strings that print the character names will likely be broken, and it requires a case-by-case fix (it's been awhile, so I forget exact what. But I do remember the text strings had LOTS of hard-coded stuff. I'd imagine the "strange text" in that enhancement patch is because while I can't read all of it, I am sure there are changes from the original Japanese text. The thing I didn't like about that enhancement patch is that, however they did their speed hack, it seems to be rather glitchy and could cause you to start getting in an encounter every step. (my hack just reduced the delay between steps to moving a pixel each frame, down from the original's 3 frames per pixel) Last edited by KingMike; 02-07-2010 at 10:14 AM. Reason: More information. |
