I know this has been an ever so reccurring thread... but it's never too late to ask, especially with OS.
How has XP been working out for you? Is it as stable as win2k? (I know it better more compatibility so no need to talk about that). Trying to rate it in terms of stability and crash frequency. I'm quite happy with w2k's stability so far, rarely crashes... now that I'm upgrading computers, I was wondering if it was worth it to go up to XP, or is it just a gimmicky, sluggish, slow, instable beast?

Well, i've been using ME for as long as i've had this comp, and it hasn't really disbehaved that much. I'm gonna try XP after i reformated, tell ya then.

winxp is great for me, and i will never switch to another os again, kthx
and what u were sayin earlier...um ya its a very stable os assuming u gots the RAM to handle it, which is at least 128 but realisticly its 256, its not very compatible with alot of things but thats why patches were invented so what didn't work before, now do http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I never had a crash once with this os and i dont find it sluggish at all. I hope u make the switch real soon, you wont regret it

I love winxp, especially if u have a dual boot...;) Winxp is very fast, provided that you dont have a lot of crap installed http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif It's locked up on me a few times, during boot (twice to be exact) but other than that, it wasn't winxp's fault...If you currently have win98, and don't want to fork over the cash for xp, or don't use your computer for much...Don't upgrade unless you want to use it! Like a person who just surfs the net, and checks the e-mail doesn't need to get winxp, it'd save u 200+ bucks.

I have Win XP and Ive had no problems with it since i got it in November
It crashed about 4 times since then and I think thats a lot better than my friend's Win ME which crashes every 5 hours.
the only problem w/ Xp is how much ram it uses. it sucks up ram like a black hole so if you want speed have 512 MB.

WinXP works almost fine most of the time for me, and it only crashed once since November, when I first got it. The taskbar keeps freezing for some reason though, and Internet Explorer as well (but that happens in all the OSes).
Compatibility-wise, not as good as Win98SE, a lot of problems with older software, but who needs them? http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
So the taskbar freezing for a minute occasionally seems to be the biggest problem.

I used to have ez cd 5 but it always messed w/ XP
You should get Nero 5.5.7.8(XP compatible) Its better than ez cd and it gives you a lot more options.

While we're talking about XP I wanna list some problems that you guys might be able to help me out with
For some gay reason I have to set the clock up on my comp every other day cuz its off by 4 hours
why??
There are some files that my dumb ass brother put in the program files folder of my drive that whenever i try to delete
it says that it cant because its already in use or because you need administrative priviledges when I am the #### computer's administrator!
why??
please help!
No swearing aloud or something?

Simple solution: Kick Bill Gates in the arse and force him to program a new operating system without bugs.
Btw, i'm installing XP today, as well as formatting. Wish me luck...

thanks for the info... I guess not many people here use w2k... (that's what I use). Anybody that know this stuff, I have an additional question. since Xp is basicallu built out of win2000 shouldn't all programs compatible with win2k be compatible with xp? (SOFTWARE and NOT HARDWARE)

As far as I know most if not all win2k software runs on XP

Take a break... have someone/something else install it...
But for me XP is great... even runs a few of the win 3.1 games that I couldn't on my last comp (last comp was a 98)
and a few better... (finally got OMF2097 in working order...)
So stick with XP http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Seen the positive resp. I think I'll up to XP once I get the hardware that can run it. I defeinitely think I'll be going for a lot of ram... even win2k is giving me some serious trouble with 128k o Ram so I can't imagine running XP with anything lower than 512 or see even more.
