Oblivion Texture tutorial by: Vince -AKA- Tekno-Kanix
Requirements/Downloads:
1. The Elder Scrolls IV -Oblivion
2. The Elder Scrolls Construction Set
3. PhotShop 7, CS2, or CS3
4. DDS PLUGIN (http://www.nvidia.com/object/photoshop_dds_plugins.html) for PhotoShop
5. Not required, but recommended.
DDS Thumbnail Viewer (http://developer.nvidia.com/object/dds_thumbnail_viewer.html) This allows you to view extracted thumb nails of DDS files in View>Thumbnails, very useful if you have extracted multiple files.
6. Nifskope (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=149157&package_id=170735) for opening the .NIF files and applying your newly created DDS texture to. USE nifskope version 0.9.3 This is the version I use and it works fine. Some of the newer versions act crazy and screw up the save paths and will stuff show as pink.
7. BSA Commander (http://letalka.sourceforge.net/morr/download/bsacmd.rar)
This is what you use to unpack the BSA files that contain the .NIF meshes and .DDS Textures from oblivion.
Install DDS PLUGIN, DDS Thumbnail Viewer.
Install Nifskope to C:\Nifskope
extract BSA Commander to
C:\Oblivion Mods\Tools\BSA Commander
*NOTE* Make certain you have at least 10 GB of free space on your C drive. If you do not, please try and make you new folder with the same names as I illustrate just on a different drive if need be.
FOLDER CREATING:
You might want to take a deep breathe now and get prepared.....
Navigate back to the Oblivion Mods directory that you created, make a new folder and name it
Vinces Tutorial inside of that folder create 2 more, name one meshes and the other textures
open up the meshes folder that you just made and make a new one and name it weapons
do the same with the textures folder; make a new folder named weapons, now in the textures
directory where the weapons folder is, make a new one and give it the name menus open the
menus folder and make yet another one and name it icons, and lastly make one named
weapons inside the icons folder and you're done with folder creating, for now.
EXTRACTING THE .BSA FILES:
Navigate to Oblivion Mods\Tools\BSA Commander, run bsacmd.exe
click Tools at the top right of the window, If the word Associate is NOT greyed out click it.
Once done click close in that window then exit BSA Commander.
Navigate to where you have Oblivion installed. Open the Data folder and you should see
something similar as shown in the screen shot.
http://vince.emuxhaven.net/obliviontut/1.gif
TEXTURE AND MESH STEP
Now double click Oblivion - Meshes.bsa and BSA Commander should show back up.
*NOTE* Your PC will most likely quit responding for a few seconds but it will feel like forever.
Just wait it out and click on the tab named bsacmd on your task bar.
Once everything is loaded you should see a long list with a green check by them to the left.
If you do not see the green checks click Check All at the top right.
Once you do that click Unpack
BEFORE you click Unpack again Change the Destination dir to:
C:\Oblivion Mods\Tools\BSA Commander\out\
The folder should already be there, all you should have to do is click the ... and browse to:
C:\Oblivion Mods\Tools\BSA Commander and select the out folder.
If one is not there create one named out.
Once you have changed the directory put a check by Show unpacking stat
Now finally click Unpack for the second time. This will most likely take awhile.
Take a coffee break, nap or w/e
Once it gets done a file should show up. It's just a log file telling you the actions it just did.
You can close that file and also close BSA Commander.
*OPTIONAL START*
If you have the room and want to keep all the
files on your HD to experiment with then that's fine.
If not:
Navigate to C:\Oblivion Mods\Tools\BSA Commander\out
Delete all the files and folders except for textures and meshes
Now open the textures folder and delete all files and folder except for:
armor
clothes
menus
menus50
menus80
weapons
Now open the meshes folder and delete all files and folder but:
armor
clothes
menus
weapons
*OPTIONAL END*
Listen very closely now. REPEAT the TEXTURE AND MESH STEP and do the same thing now
with Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa
yes, the files should be extracted to the same out folder as you did the meshes.
CREATING THE MOD:
Lets open 2 different directories now.

Now we should have:
C:\Oblivion Mods\Vinces Tutorial\textures\menus\icons\weapons\redglassclay more
C:\Oblivion Mods\Vinces Tutorial\textures\weapons\redglassclaymore
C:\Oblivion Mods\Vinces Tutorial\meshes\weapons\redglassclaymore

Here are my results:
http://vince.emuxhaven.net/obliviontut/2T.gif (http://vince.emuxhaven.net/obliviontut/2.gif)
I did all of that in the HUE\SATURATION channels, CTRL+U
The MASTER channel effects the Blade Color, or what you see that's RED
The REDS and YELLOWS channels effect how the handle will look
