I was wondering if anyone even knew that this existed. Memory Card Captor Sakura is a Japanese application written to copy old PSOne memory cards onto your computer.
I translated the newest version over a month ago and posted it on the SSTrans webpage. Nobody has said anything about it so I'm assuming that the general public still doesnt know about it. The page is here:

Note: I'll post pictures of my hardware interface later. (That is, if anyone shows interest.)

um what about the dex drive?

i still have mine :D

Ahh... but is a dex drive really going to give you the same level of satisfaction as building your own hardware interface? I've always been a fan of do-it-yourself electronics projects. The Computerized Infrared Remote being one of my favorites. (http://www.ziplabel.com/cir/index.html) It's great for playing pranks on your family. You can even write your own software. (ex. a program that will automatically turn the TV on of off at specific times.)

thats great that you jig-rigged your own hardware. and i'll admit i'm too damn lazy to do anything liek that. especially something thats already been done and that i could get off ebay for less than 5 bucks.
but yeah i would like to see the hardware. do you think the software you translated might work with the dexdrive hardware though? that's mainly what i was getting at.. i think.. cuz the interface seems to have alot more options than i remember the dexdrive had.. it was pretty barebones to be honest.
actually i think i'll test it out now
welp.. scratch that i must have thrown it out when i moved.. damn that sucks..

ouch... that does suck... I hope you find it!
Well, here's a picture of my PSX Card Reader:

The colorful junk in the back is my wife's stuff... This was my first time using a dremel tool and I haven't really cleaned the exterior. The memory card slot is from an old Playstation. I might take a picutre of the inside later when I'm not lazy. I bought the project case frm radio shack. The little hole in the front is where the LED shines when a memory card is inserted.
Oh, and as for supporting the dex drive, I know it can open dex drive format saves... As far as reading from the dex drive hardware... I'm not sure.

I'd really like to give that a try. I could probably ask if one of my friends has a broken Playstation I can steal parts from. =P
It looks pretty interesting.
Woah! You translated the latest version of the program? Sweet. I myself happen to have made myself one of these interfaces as well. And i'm telling you it was quite a task to get the old translated version to work on XP. It involved getting the latest japanese version, running it to have it install that dll, and then using the old translated english version so you at least understand half of everything, and then for some reason it would'nt work until I ran this program that did something about the parrallel port. looks like you even included it in the archive. Thats really nice. You're translation is also alot better than the the one they had for the old version. I can actually read the information on the saves. It'd be nice though if you provided the runtime dlls needed to run this seeing as how I had to google them before i could run it.
Now all this program needs is ps2 card support...
Also about that Dexdrive thing, if 1)The dexdrive hooks up via the parrallel (printer) port and 2)You were able to find out just what pin connects to what, you could most likely use the custom wiring setup dialougue to make it work. Thats assumming that the dexdrive doesan't have any chips or what-zits on the inside, and is just a pretty way of connecting the memorycard pins to your computer. If I had a dexdrive, I could probably find out, maybe i'll pick one up one of these days and test it out.

Thanks! ^_^ I had a hard time with the old versions as well. Not to mention trying to use the old DOS playsaver program. Memory Card Captor Sakura is the only windows XP friendly program I could find. The reason I included userport with the distro was because I couldn't (and still can't) get the giveio.sys file to register properly on my system. That is exactly the reason that I translated the new version and took out manditory usage of the giveio.sys file. (That and the old translations were rather shoddy.)
I'm not sure what runtime .dll files that people would need since it worked on my computer the first time I tried it, but I'm assuming that this is what people would need:

I've heard of people being able to copy PS2 memcard saves to a PS1 memcard and then copying it over to a PS2 card. I'm not sure if it's possible, as I've never tried it. I think the hardware interface would a the very least need some tweaking for a PC to read the raw data from a PS2 card...
Well here's a picture of my interface.

I was too lazy to make a covering for it, and unfortunatly the 9-volt battery plug that I was going to use for dualshock had shoddy wire that just snapped the first time I tryed to use it. Other than that though it works just fine.

What is your wire configuration??
I haven't been able to get my Memory Card 2x to read properly yet... maybe it's just my card... Every other card I've tried works perfectly.
I'm pretty sure that I used this interface:
http://www.gamesx.com/mccap/mccs_dpp.gif (http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/imageview.php?image=769)
Combined with the 1N4148 or similar diodes needed for this interface:

I'm not sure just how neccesary the diodes are, but if thats the only diferance between mine and yours then perhaps thats the problem.

-_-' lol... Yeah... I know how to connect a PSX controller to the computer... I was asking about the wiring for your memory card slot because I can't get my "Memory Card 2x" to read properly...
Oh wow, seams like in my last post I had one of the links pointing in the wrong place lol! this picture http://www.gamesx.com/mccap/mccs_dpp.gif (it's actually pointing to the right place now) shows how I just connected the memory card pins to their coresponding psx contoller pins, useing the direct pad pro wiring setup. That would be the reason if any why my 2x memory card works and your's doesn't. Sorry about being a little confusing on my last post :action29:, heck i'm kinda tired right now so I might not now be even coming across clear...

Possible to get memory card data from a PSX-to USB adaptor and a multitap?

d'oh... thanks for the link ajax. I'll re-check my schematic... oh... and mike, it would be sweet to be able to design the hook up to the psx memory card through the usb... I know its possible, since I have a USB adaptor for my PSX controller... but as for programming the IC for the connection to work... I wouldn't know where to start. I've looked for information on it, but I haven't come up with any electronics projects for it yet...
It would be nice... Someone needs to reverse engineer this: http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=25&products_id=2360&
Heh... or just buy it and use it... it does PS1 and PS2 memory cards... you can even use it to mod your PS2... hmmm... not a bad idea... I found a RAW memory card image file that supposedly lets you boot to a hard drive on the PS2 and its supposed to work with PS1 cards too... I'll try it later...
Hello.
I want to make PSX MC Reader. I tried a lot of diagrams [about 6 I think] but I can't make it run. Please help me and make good quality photos of yours units.
Thanks a lot.
