On the 14th was the fourth year anniversary of KingMike's Translations (http://kingmike.emuxhaven.net).
To celebrate, I release a translation of Sword of Kalin for the Famicom Disk System. It is an action-RPG somewhat in the vein of the first couple Ys games, and also one of the earliest (if the not the first) 2D RPGs by Square.
This patch will need you to use a DOS program (haven't tried it, but a DOS emu should also work. It's a simple copy and paste program). This program will move the files in the disk image around a bit, expanding the size of some files within the disk. This was done to squeeze a few more oh-so-precious bytes out of the game, just enough to allow the text to be expanded (through compression), and sound a lot better.
The only bug I'm aware of (and this was just before getting the patch put together) is that using a Heal Potion in the game may potentially cause a crash, but I couldn't get it to happen consistant enough to try to find the cause. And I think it's only if you maybe consecutively use all five your allowed at once. Which you shouldn't need to. :)
So, download the patch zip, run the prog on your Japanese disk image, then apply the translation patch to the new disk image spat out.
And I also released a mini-patch for a simple but fun action (puzzley?) game for the Famicom/NES. Titled the patch Little Ghosts. It is a game where you run around a maze trying to rodeo all the apples to make all the boxes "empty". It's different, so try it out.
