I've now uploaded a preliminary version of a program (http://kingmike.emuxhaven.net/romhelp/tools.htm) I wrote that can seperate an FDS disk image into an individual files, along with another program to rebuild those files back into the full disk image when you're done. The advantage being that maybe file by file translation work is easier, and also it should allow file expansion, though there may be some game coding limitations (FDS disks are limited to 65500 bytes in size, and you'd need to be careful there aren't multiple files fighting over the same RAM space. Also files aren't unloaded from the FC RAM, leaving potential for evil programming. Code carefully!)
Also, thinking about a translation project to try this out with. The Sword of Kalin. I guess the battle system is sorta like Ys, though the battles take place on a seperate screen. Fun, though it also contains Ys' (the NES part 1 anyways) painful death rate. :P The dumped script is about 11KB SJS if anybody's interested.
And a bit unfortunate DOG's next, proposed final game would be this (http://kingmike.emuxhaven.net/ffstuff.JPG) dud. What WERE they thinking? :D
