Problem with PS2

I have some problem with my PS2 system....... my dvd drive cant read a dvd. I have try a lot of game and none of them is working.... so my expectation is my dvd drive is 'broken' and I intended to repair it. Do you guys have any suggestion about that?

My second opinion is to buy external dvd drive using USB port......can i use this method?

most cases of this you do not have to replace anything..
as i have fixed countless ps2's with this same problem..
the problem is you need to recalibrate the laser.. and to do that its as simple as adjusting a white cog that is located under the cd tray assembly..
so yes you will need to take your ps2 apart.. but this is a fairly simple task and you should to refer to another topic at which i explained this very process.. lesse if i can find it..
ok.. refer here for now and try this before you go doing somethign stupid liek spending unnecessary money...

Hah, I had this problem a few years ago.. I ended up buying a new PS2. If only I wasn't such a noob back then I mighta been able to do something smart about it. I couldn't find any screws on the damn thing though, back then, they really hide them. >.>

I have try this method to fix it and it seem its not working at all. I go check with the shopper and they say the laser is broken and i need to spend around MYR(Malaysia Ringgit)300 to repair it....... such a lot money to me....better wait for ps3 release.....hehe

hmm, check to see if the laser ( thing that reads the dvds ) is dirty or not, if it's dirty, then it wouldnt usually read the DVD's and CD's. So clean the laser if it needs cleaning.
