(I sent Mr. Kingmike a message about this earlier, but it bears repeating.)
It's great to see that someone's finally doing something with BS SMB USA, as it's a great game, really. The only problem is that most people cannot fully appreciate it because they lack a vital piece of technical info:
*The game ONLY works properly under SNES9x 1.29 or EARLIER!*
It's been a few years since I've done a survey of these things, but odds are that ZSNES and SNES9x are still not emulating it properly. (I initially made this discovery with the DOS port of SNES9x, which was stuck at 1.26 last time I checked.) There's all kinds of fun and amusing timer-related events that happen over the course of the game, including spontaneous morphing into different Mario characters. After about half an hour, you're taken to the Bonus Chance screen for a few minutes, after which the credits run. If the timer is stuck at 18:xx and you come up as Mario at the start, something's wrong.
You can read more about the game here (http://www.nintendoland.com/home2.htm?funfacts/bs/super_mario_bros_usa.htm), but the cooler screenshots are on the second page.
One more caveat: Some dumps of BS SMB USA actually won't boot under SNES9x 1.29; nothing will happen when you try to load them. If that happens, create a savestate at the St. GIGA startup screen with any later version of SNES9x, and then load that savestate into SNES9x 1.29.
