I'm new to emulation and I want to know where I can get
a REAL neo geo emulator. I downloaded some roms(7 megs each) but I can't even get any emulator to work. I know that there are some neo geo emulators that work(I have it at my school comp Neo Rage) but I can't find any that work.
Is it because I have WinXp? All you emulation experts reading this please help me out!!!

lol yea Its something like final fantasy http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif and good neo geo emus..... I use Neo RageX and Mame and I'm not an "emu expert" but I do play games with them. I would think that mame would work with xp, it's usually up-to-date, but I dunno. I'm sure the "experts" will post something for you thats more in depth.

Good luck...bye

NeoRageX needs a special exe file to work with XP.

Go here (http://www.emuxhaven.net/neoemu.html) and download the file marked Neo-RageX V0.6b (WinXP), and overwrite the old NeoRage exe file with the new 1. That should solve the prob. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well I dont think its compatibility problems he has , its the missing link http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif the bios file , NeoGeo emulation cant be started without this bad ,and I mean in the legal sense, image file.
You can find that file by doing a search on google.com for bios files.

Just place that file ,by the way it is a zipped file, in your roms dir and neogeo games should run fine. I would have to say NeoRageX is the best but you can also use MAME or Winkawaks . Both very good emulators.

It's me again. I don't think I need the BIOS file yet. I can't even get the emulator running. Is the emulator supposed to be only 300k? Could you guys please take me through this step by step If you don't mind? It seems like every site I check out takes me back to a site I checked out 5 minutes before. Could you also give me a list of some URLS where I can get that emulator and Bios file.

Ok Follow these 3 links, and DL all these files, set 'em all up in 1 directory.

Unzip This First
http://www.emuxhaven.net/emuxhaven/neo/NeoRAGE_x.zip
Run this second
http://www.emuxhaven.net/emuxhaven/neo/extras/NeoRAGExSetup.exe
Overwrite the .exe File from the First zip with this 1
http://www.emuxhaven.net/emuxhaven/neo/extras/neoragexxp.zip

Also you *WILL* need the BIOS the even to just run the prog. Mmkay, Put all the roms into the roms subfolder (leave 'em zipped BTW). Once in NeoRageX, click Import, and NeoRage will scann ur roms folder for available roms. Once its done, double-click an availableroms, and your on ur way. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

If you still need help, please tell us exacty where things went wrong, and we'll try our best to help.

Thanks a lot for your help but I'm still stuck. I installed neo rage from the second URL and tried to run it but it wouldn't work. I tried to overwrite the xp update with the old one but
I couldn't do it. When you say overwrite what exactly do you mean?(sorry for sounding stupid)
I dragged the update exe over the one from the first URL but it just gave me errors. Then I tried to just run the the update
exe but it said something about need Bios rom.
So then I downloaded the Bios files too from emusa and tried again but still couldn't do it. What am i supposed to do with the Bios files. The readme said to put it in the roms directory.
Where's that?

Ok first things first, by overwrite i mean just drag the new .exe file into the directory. Dont drag it over the old .exe, if u do that, NeoRage will open and try to load the new .exe as a rom. Better yet, to simplify things, delete the old exe before placing the new one into the NeoRage directory. Unzip teh BIOS to the same folder as NeoRage. Put ur roms in the 'roms' subfolder of NeoRage. If it still doesnt work after that, then I've helped all I can http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

na dont unzip the bios file , keep it zipped up and put it in the roms dir or whereever you put your neogeo roms which should be roms dir.

Thanks a lot, Cero! It worked!  http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/happy.gif
I had to rename the zip bios file "neogeo.zip", put it in the
same directory and load the xp update. I didn't know I had to rename the bios to neogeo until I read the readme.
One last question: Does NeoRageX support a joystick?
I heard somewhere it does. If it does I'll buy a new joystick(my old one broke).

Well Neoragex supports DirectX, if u can use ur joy stick with directX u can use it with NeoRageX.

I know this probly a stupid question but how exactly do I
import games?

i didn't know at first you leave the games zipped, but i found
out and  just draged it into the roms folder thus creating a
shortcut. Should i re download the game into the folder?
Is this the problem?

To import  the roms using NeoRageX , when you open it up , you'll see a button that says : Import roms , hit it and it'll check your roms dir and import the games that you have in there and show them to the left menu with the games names.
