Alright I got the beta ready. DirectX implemented. I hope your computer can handle the massive sound capabilities of DirectX 7, because if not dont even try to use this... you can get it from the MarioNES homepage (http://mariones.emuxhaven.net). Its still kinda buggy, but its better than midi. it cuts out and the volume gets low in one side of my headphone but i dunno if its the emulator or my crappy headphones. post your reactions, and what you think should be done to it overall.
What the hell are you waiting for?! Go get it!

Really, I doubt any card nowdays don't support the capabilities of DirectSound. Good work on your behalf. :)

yeah... um the massive capabilities of DirectX thing. that was sarcasm. but still you need at least DirectX 7, which I think first came as a happy meal toy in 1996. not positive though.

I gave MarioNes a quick test with all the roms I had on my HD and this is my little compatablility list I compiled just for the fun of it:
Arkanoid: Mapper #188 not supported.
Baloon Fight: OK!

Final Fantasy 1: Minor gfx errors on sides of screen when scrolling up or down.
Final Fantasy 2: (T):Minor gfx errors on sides of screen when scrolling up or down, minor gfx errors in battle.
Final Fantasy 3 (T):Seams to work just fine (but i know from experience that with some emulators the games text messes up some way into the game, to lazy to see if thats the case with this emulator).
Final Fantasy 1-2 (T): Doesan't work (loads up grey screen).
Fire Emblem Gaiden (T): Translated text is messed up (seams to be a problem with some emulators).
Gauntlet 2:freezes after title screen.
Ice Climbers: Mapper #188 not supported.
Kirby's adventure: Major gfx errors on status screen.
Marble madness: Major gfx errors at beginning of each level.

Megaman 5: slight gfx errors on the side of the the screen.
Megaman 6: major graphics errors at someplaces EG:tomahawk man's stage.
Megaman: minor gfx errors around borders.
Metroid: measege diologes don't apear.
Momopoly: OK!
Super Mario bros: occasional flickering of time\score\ect.
Super Mario bros 2: minor gfx errors.
Super Mario bros 3: minor gfx errors when scrolling left or right. Major gfx errors on status bar when scrolling up or down.
Super dodge ball: Sprites flicker (but i think this might just be a problem with the game).
Zelda: minor gfx errors on the sides of the screen.
Zelda 2: minor gfx errors on title screen, on world map while scrolling left or right, and while going in between screens.
Also, here are some features I would like to see for MarioNes (in no particular order):
1. More accurate sound
2. A speed button
3. Full gamepad support
4. Better compatability/more mappers.
I'm realy interested in seeing you work on this emulator, because from what I can tell, visual basic is a hard language to program emulators in. Also, if you could get in some of the features from the list above, i'd probably even realy like the emulator.
Well anyway I hope you continue working on your emulator/improving your VB skills, because I think this emulator has alot of potential.

Edit: Wow! i think thats the longest post i've ever posted.

havent had a chance to check all of the problems you listed... but I dont have any problems(excluding sound) with these games:
Dig Dug
Arkanoid
Ice Climber
Megaman
Other than that you were pretty spot on... and the most thorough review of MarioNES I have ever gotten.
Thanks...
Your welcome! I had plenty of time on my hands so i decided to do something usefull with it. If you ever get around to updating MarioNes, i'd be happy to test it out as well.
