Yeah!!
I figured it out.
Though it was only a really simple RLE routine, took like 10 minutes to get it decompressed. :D
'course that was only after I unsuccesfully spent a few hours trying to emulate (in C++) the 65816 decompression code. :eplus2:
Only then did I even bother to compare a save state to the ROM to come to the simple conclusion. :(

Which brings us to the quesion:
Now that title hacking is possible, what to call it?
I don't think SD Gundam Gaiden: Knight Gundam Story: The Great Propecy is going to fit in readable text, so I want to shorten it a bit.
Maybe "The Story of SD GUNDAM: The Great Prophecy"? (the sub-subtitle is stored in a seperate tileset, but has also been decompressed)

why not just call it "SD Gundam Gaiden: The Great Prophecy"

Thanks. That's probably better than what I thought.
Possibly replace "The Story of" with "SD", and "SD Knight Gundam" with Gundam Gaiden"?
Just also thought I'd show off a little photoshopping job I did.

I'm thinking Impact font for the title logo?
Any suggestions/ideas? Obviously when a logo is chosen, it would have the shading/gradiant filling corrected.

How about "SD" in the red text and "Gundam Knight" in the blue?

I usually hear of it as "SD Gundam Knight" anyway...

EDIT: I know I'm not one of your group, but I pride my ability to make title screen logos...

Copy and paste the link, and take a look. I haven't done "SD" or "The Great Prophecy", but I took the advice about using Impact font...

well if it says

sd gundam gaiden
naito gundam monogatari
dainaru isan

which as far as i can tell it does, it'd literally be

sd gundam gaiden
the legend of knight gundam
the fulfilling of the inheritance

or something :P

I didn't bother to look up a translation of the subtitle until Snake romanized it.

"Isan", or "legacy". @#$%. Suddenly I'm seeing "The Legacy of Great Intention" from the original Shining Force plastered across the bottom of that. XD

Anyway, I think the title you should use is "SD Gundam Knight: The Great Legacy".

I'll get to work on my own logo for that, and I think I'll start from scratch.

Take a look at this.

http://www.sdgundamforce.com/

I think I'll use that as the basis for my logo, if at all possible. Just nix "Superior Defender" and the wings, and change "Force" to "Knight". ^_^

EDIT: Can someone provide me with the palettes for the logo?

EDIT: In addition, would it be possible to alter the tilemap for the logo? "The Great Legacy" would look great nestled in the curve of the letters. I'll probably create two versions, large and small, one for the existing tilemap and the other for a hypothetical "other".

by the way, have you not got a translator for this? :S

KingMike

No translator on it. It's all kana text, and the Shift-JIS files total about 100 KB. Which I've been told is a very scary, since kana is alot harder for most translators to understand than kanji.
(while I was able to get somebody to nicely do the like 5 KB of battle text, they said were busy to do the rest, which was plot stuff)

I got one of those SD Gundam Force DVDs awhile back. Kinda wondered if they were of the same series.

Ryusui, the best I could do is probably a bitmap of the title screen.
Maybe if I could get SNEMUL (a long dead SNES emu for DOS) to work on my XP computer, then I might have been able to get something. (No other SNES emulator I'm aware of has a in-emu RAM/VRAM viewer). Unless somebody knows how to use a savestate to get the palette job done?

Yes and no on the issue of SD Gundam in general.

SD Gundam is a long-running thing in Japan: in terms of merchandise, SD Gundams have been around since I really don't know when. The first SD Gundam animation was a parody series involving the First Gundam cast.

SD Gundam's popularity in Japan can also be traced to a prolific series of strategy games, both straight-up SD Gundam and the legendary "Super Robot Wars" series featuring characters from all over the giant robot anime landscape and their signature robots, all SD'd, of course. This was, in fact, the birthplace of Mazinkaiser, the updated version of Go Nagai's "Mazinger Z", which went on to get its own OVA series (where the original star robot is defeated and discarded in the first episode!).

SD Gundam also had two spinoffs in terms of games: the "Musha Gundam" (featuring anthropomorphized Mobile Suits redesigned to look like samurai) and "Knight Gundam" (same as Musha, only with a medieval fantasy setting) series.

In the TV series "SD Gundam Force", the first time the U.S. has seen SD Gundam in any form (in fact, the U.S. got SD Gundam Force BEFORE Japan!), Musha Gundam and Knight Gundam make appearances as the worlds of Ark and Lacroix, which like Neotopia are under the attack of the evil Dark Axis.

Their representatives, respectively, are Zero the Winged Knight (Wing Gundam Zero Custom) and Bakunetsumaru (Shining Gundam), also anthropomorphized. XD

(It should be noted that Captain Gundam appears to be an original design.)

Actually, I once found a program made for editing palettes that could also search for color patterns, and hence palettes. ^_^ I used it to modify the title screen logo to "Mobile Fighter G Gundam" so that the word "Gundam" was red, like in the English logo.

If you could send me a portion of the script I can see if I'm up to it (although all this week and next week I've got uni assignments to complete I can at least tell whether it's doable) even full kana's easier than texturing a complex object in ****ing open gl :(

Well, there's a ZSNES with viewer, it's called RZSNES. You can go to Returner's ZSNES (http://sapporo.cool.ne.jp/rzsnes/), Googleing or telling me. Let me tell you that latest version is a bit buggy and it consumes "a lot" of processor (in comparison with 1.337). If you can't find 1.337 and want to try it, just let me know how to contact you or an email to send you the file.

See you!

Ok I've played through the rom a bit, it's not so bad I guess. Also I finished 1/2 uni assignments today, so if you want to send me that script.....

I just finished the logos. Copy and paste the URLs; Tripod hates direct linking.

I also put together a mock-up of what the logo should look like:

It looks a lot better on the original title screen background, trust me. ^_^
