"According to the latest issue of Japanese gaming publication Famitsu, Square's WonderSwan Color remake of Final Fantasy III has undergone many delays due to an unexpectedly long development time. Specifics as to the reason for the extended production time were not mentioned, but it was revealed that the game will probably not be released anytime soon.

The Final Fantasy III remake is part of a series of re-releases of classics in Square's Masterpiece Collection for the WonderSwan Color. The game takes players onto a floating continent where they are to lead the light warriors to victory over the invading darkness. Because the game is currently available only for Bandai's Japanese-exclusive portable, it will likely not be released in North America." --RPGamer

Good. It's good to hear that the game's not cancelled, since this is IMO the BEST 8-bit game and the most fun 2D Final Fantasy ever.

I wonder why the game's taking so long though, maybe it's too long or there's not enough staff working on it or something?

Didn't I heard that this game was going to be released in Japan this summer *I think I got it from the Magic box site or something like it*?

I don't see anything but FFXI headliens at magic box...

Interesting news from that site though:

In the Square Investors Meeting, the company has announced Square's future development strategies, here are some highlights: (Source Madman's Cafe)

Square will focus on video game business from now on, they are not planning to invest into other fields of business like movies.
Square is planning to reproduce classic hits such as Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Tactics, Seiken Densetsu and Parasite Eve.
For 2002, they will not begin any major projects other than the Final Fantasy series. Square is planning to expand the Final Fantasy series, such as sub-series that focus on certain characters, or spin-offs like Final Fantasy Tactics.
Square is aiming to generate between 4 - 6 billion yen profit in console games, and 1 - 3 billion yens on online games for the next fiscal year.

Another CT remake? When will that stop??

It was delayed indefinitely, not to the summer.

delayed indefently as in it will never be released? i hope Square makes Final Fantasy 6 on the WSC i would think they could do it if they could make FF4.

They would be stupid to release FF6 on the WSC when they can in fact put it on the GBA.

But FF3 still has to be released. Fans demand it, and they will do it in some form or other.
