ok, so this sub forum isn't very busy so i felt like creating a topic.
cps3 kids, the one system that really needs to be in the list of MAMEd systems. who cares if it's all for SFIII, this thing needs to emulated and quick. someone can get through the encryption just like with all other previous systems. it might be the lack of interest.

Nah... It's because the lack of documentation and the insane encryption and copy-protection scheme that Capcom used on its games. There's quite some interest due to the fact that the SF3 series is on there. But without proper documentation it's hard to figure out how to dump the games properly, Capcom made this to deter bootleggers after all. And without the games, they can't find a way to emulate them. <_<

they have dumped the bios of a few games but that's not enough for them to work properly, even with a fully-functional emulator.

there were only six games made for CPS3, so it's strange that there is such a demand for emulation of the system. anyway last time i checked out of the six only three of them had been dumped (just the bios roms, though). JoJo no Kimyouna Bouken, Street Fighter 3 - The New Generation, and Warzard.

the way cps3 works is that there is a cd and a cartridge. the cd has all the game data (which would be important for emulation), and the highly sensitive (anal) cartridge (the p.i.t.a. anti-piracy protection) has an encryption chip and the bios rom.

anyway, what i don't understand is that if the bios roms for SF3-TNG, Warzard, and JJNKB have all been dumped, then for those three games the hard part is over right? they should be able to just make iso's of the game data and work with that to make a working emulator.

As far as I know the ISOs for all six games' CDs have been available for who knows how long... But apparently it's just impossible to work off of those alone.

if all six iso's are out there, and three of the bios roms have been dumped, then what the hell is the problem? wasn't the encryption on the cartridge just to keep the bios roms from being dumped?

Well I'm guessing that even if the BIOS are dumped they are still encrypted. So they can't use them still.

i guess that makes sense but i would think that the hard part would be dumping the bios because the cartridges are so dodgy. oh well, guess i'm wrong.

thanks for the info.
