Today I tested the wonderswan version, because I wondered what it would be like *Went to a few message boards asking whats it like, but even then I still wondered.*. So far it seems that the SNES version is way much better then the WSC. And the really fake mode 7 effect stinks *Its really a 2D map with a wavy effect thrown in and it doesn't look pretty*. The battles in the game seem to be like 2 to 4 times slower then the SNES version. The music sounds worser then the SNES version of FF4 and the FF1 and FF2 wonderswan remakes. So far none of the story is changed. I think this port was kinda lazy compared to the wonderful FF1 and FF2 WSC versions. I hope Square does a good job on the WSC version of FF3 if it ever comes out.

OK, FF4 was originally NOT supposed to be released in the WSC, but apparently, because of FF3 delays (hopefully because they were trying to put too much in...) they decided to release that one first to please the fans and get FF3 out later.

I agree the Mode7 stinks, but the graphics and other things are the best the WSC has to offer, since you are used to seeing the SNES version you probably don't realized that the graphics are on caliber with the FF1 and 2 ports, but anyway... Sound is top-notch for a WSC, and Square tried hard to please with this, they even enhanced some of the graphics.

About the battles, they seem slow because Square seemed to have made this an easy-hardtype, some random encounters are super easy, Cecil can kill about four of them before they attack you, but I guess its because this is a handheld, and they don't want to make the game too difficult that the player must spend too much time on it to level up. I don't blame them, they made all their remakes on the WSC easier. And it's good that they didn't make this as easy as easytype, because that would totally blow.

So Square tried their best with this, but considering the limitations of the WSC, it was certainly not perfect.

I wonder what the world map would look like if Square ported FF6 *World map is Mode 7* for the WSC?

I don't even know if the WSC hardware is capable of reproducing a game like FF6...

BTW the SNES versions of FF4 and FF5 have Mode7 for world maps even though it doesn't seem like it. If they weren't Mode7 it would be impossible to change the map into Mode7 once you get on an airship.
