Hello,

Please forgive me if these come across as simple questions but I have looked in various places for the answers (FAQs, other message boards, search sites, etc.) and have not been able to get any answers.  Thus, I am turning to this board for help.

I am fairly new to console emulation.  I have used Kawaks and MAME for a while (about 2 months) and have had much luck with those programs.

Well, with console emulation there are a few things I need clarified.  I have been able to set up Dega, WGens, and ZSnesW on my computer and they seem to work fine and I have also gotten a number of ROMS for games that I used to love.

*However* I have noticed that many of the ROMs / zips have different names and nomenclature.  What I was wondering was is there a program like ROM Center or ClrMAME Pro for use with the console emulators and ROMs that I have?

I have attempted to use ROM Center with modified GOODxxx Datafiles and I have also attempted to use the GOODxxx programs on this site to no avail (I had problems even getting GOODxxx files from this site to work on my computer).

Can anyone direct my to an **idiot proof, user friendly** application that can run on Windows ME that will help diagnose all the ROMs I've been able to get?

I simply wish to know which ROMs are faulty and what their proper names should be and if they need any fixing (ex. missing files, faulty ROM names, etc.) I just want to know that I have a complete and stable ROM set without having to play through all the games from beginning to end.

Many many thanks in advance for any advice or help I could get in this matter.

PS Does it matter what the ROM zip file is titled?  I find it much easier naming a zip of the ROM 'Phantasy Star 4' as opposed to 'ps4 [UE]'.  Will this botch up any emulator that I may use in the future for the ROM?

Uhhh... All i have to say is if you can get the game working for atleast 15-30 minutes success its probably a good dump...

But Snes9XW emulator does have (I think) header and dump info on the rom when you start it up... Or if you think somethings missing in the rom you could check the size... most roms use base 2 format for size (256 Kb, 128 Kb, 512 Kb etc.)

For programs though... uhhh... The only one I know of that I ever used was Doom's  Project 64 Utility (for N64 roms)

Oh and welcome to EmuXhaven! http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Okay, slips: First of all, it's Emulation Utility.
Secondly: It's for n64 only.
Thirdly: Get GoodWindows. It's a nice front-end to use with the GoodXXX-tools. Like GoodN64 that scans if n64 roms are good, etc.

They can be found pretty much everywhere i think on the web.

Well like Doom said get yourself GoodWindows and GoodNES (for checking NES games) and GoodSNES (for checking SNES games) all these utilities can be found on our Cowering Rom Tools page http://www.emuxhaven.net/cowering.html

One question... on the cowering web page on this site.. it says under GoodWindows "download all three files".  However, there is only

GoodWindows V 2.4
Bin.zip

What is the third file that needs to be downloaded?

OK, it sounds better now. I partially agree.

Ah, I get it now.
Well, I can't disagree. The real thing is better, I use it too. Heh, my little brother has it, and, well, I do play on it sometimes. But most games, I've got on my computer, so...

But, yeah, Banjo-Tooie is a great game and it is a shame that it is currently unemulated.
