Hey King Mike you seem to know a lot about Japanese games. Do you know of any NES Japanese games that dont have compression other than dte/mte to deal with? I know somone that is starting up romhacking and is doing rather well so far. But I'd like to have a game that doesnt involve a lot of advanced things to start off with. So he can have an easier time. Any ideas or suggestions? I dont know Japanese games that well unless they are part of a major series or something. I usually only find out about Japanese ones after someone has started a translation project. ;)

Hmmm...there's a few I've seen before that looked nice (but I can't remember off-hand), but I'll have to have a look through my collection, and try to have a quick hack first to see which are easy.

Hmmm...maybe you could narrow down what type of game you/they'd like?

Probably something short like a platform that doesnt have too much text in it. You know, nothing that has 200 kb of text in it. ;) Thanks king mike I appreciate it.

your friend could try and ntranslate the zoids 3 game for the nes there not that much text in it no kanji in it and i dont think any of it is compressed.

I found a couple action games that look nice. I'll check them to see if they're easy to hack or not.

ChrisRPG: 黃帝 (huang2 di4)! It's a NES platformer and pirate cart (mapper 112). I'll translate it if you'll hack it :P You just need to deal with vertical text that scrolls the wrong direction, no big deal, right? :P

Try Meikyuu Jima it's a puzzle game for the NES and it doesnt look too hard to hack

Meikyuu Jima was dumbed down (easier levels, stage select removed and replaced with a forced stage order) and released in English as Kickle Cubicle.

A couple action games I found interesting were Don Doko Don 2. A platformer sequel to a Bubble Bobble clone (but it's by Taito, who also made Bubble Bobble in the first place). Seems fairly good. Colorful, cartoony graphics. Script is likely a few KB.

Maybe Mito Koumon, a somewhat more serious-looking Goemon-type action game (by Sunsoft)? There's about 32KB of kana text in the second one. Not sure about the first one, though. Though it interesting how you have to punch the enemies to defeat them, but also punch the innocent bystanders to get them to talk to you.

Oh yeah, one more I just remembered, but didn't check yet. Youkai Douchuuki (Dave suggested that as a possible PCE translation, which is what reminded me of the NES version. Haven't played much any PCE games, so I'm not sure if it's the same or not, but I thought I'd throw this out as a suggestion, too).
It is an action game by Namco.

hey thanks guys! Ill definitely check them out then. Don Doko Don 2 I have played before and just didnt remember until I loaded it up just now. That might be a good one if the text isnt all that hard to deal with. ;) Ill look into it a little myself then pass on the game suggestions. I appreciate it. I know its not always nice getting started with romhacking on a game that has a lot of technical difficulties to overcome. I should have started on an easier one myself years ago, but I guess I wouldnt have learned as much as I have. ;)
