I've found some cosmetic stuff, a few downright confusing things, and only one thing that actually halted gameplay (Hey, Zeke, go talk to the old man in the shrine south of Midenhall, see if it does it to you, too).

Zeke was that in the last patch you tested? I do know one thing, I fix something and others go bad. Thats when its usually time to say enough, and release it the way it is. And let someone else fix the rest if they wanted to. Because all I am accomplishing is going in circles. I bit off way more than I can chew. Other people wanting to take up hacking... learn from my mistakes. If a game is not translated yet, there is a really good reason. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I'll have to go purposely die, I tend to try to avoid that most of the time ;)
I'm sort of trying to play the game the way someone who didn't know it would - waiting for people to tell me about stuff before I get it - so that I make sure that I find and talk to everyone I can, cause I know if I just get stuff, I'll start neglecting random npcs, and I already found that one with the freeze bug in his dialogue.
Course, the other side of that is that my levels are a bit higher than normal (that and I savestate to make sure I kill every metal slime I find http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif), so I dont die ;)

It picks a random number for the MP increase, but you don't lose the acorn and the character doesn't actually get any MP, but I tell ya, I freaked out when I saw 'gained 256 MP' when I accidently used it on him. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Thats what I mean when I said one bug gets squished and another one pops out... This patch addressed the previous bugs but correcting those bugs means new ones will pop out. Oh well.
Chris will wait until everyone finish the game and report everything, then he'll start debugging it, so hopefully the bug squishing will turn out as effective as the one earlier one before the current stage of beta. Thats why it'd be nice if you can make a list.

As I told brightman, I will wait for the reports from the last 2 beta testers who finish the game. Then I will fix everything at once. Then I will release it without anymore testing. If there are small errors oh well someone else can do a patch. I will not be changing the dq2 intro speed. I have spent days on end for 8-14 hours a day on it. I will not be hacking the ending credits. I could if I wanted to, but its gonna be messy and may cause even more bugs and errors due to the way pointers are used for them. I will however fix the things reported in the next few days. Then I will release it as version 1.0 or .99 or something like that. And it will remain that way. Any small errors will just have to stay. And a little note will be placed in the readme about the snes9x crashing system thing. I have neither the will or patience to deal with any of these things anymore. I have done nothing but dq12 for over a year. On a daily basis I spend at least half my day hacking this game. And I cant do it anymore. Because it is just a hobby after all. And when it gets to the point that the hobby is no longer enjoyable its time to stop no matter what. So I am at that place and have been getting there for a while. I hope everyone can respect my decisions. Like this I hope to release very soon. Zeke I sent you a patch with the startup screen. Can you see if it freezes on the real snes? Because it works fine in snes9x windows, snes9xdos, zsnes windows. But frezzes in zsnes dos. If so, I dont have the patience for trying to figure out why it works in some emulators and not others. So we wont have a startup screen either. Then all the names can be mentioned in the readme. And that will have to do. Thanks to all for your time and sacrifice of playing a not so great patch just to help make it better. I appreciate it.

Okay, three comments:
A: Since you guys are doing your final debug, now, do you want me to start keeping track of and reporting text/grammar bugs? I've noticed 6-7 of them so far but I haven't paid attention because Brightman told me not to.
B: I'm pretty much convinced that the snes9x crash bug had nothing to do with the rom or the patch, because I've had 0 troubles with it, beyond the time I crashed my computer by running too many things at once, and I've done that several times running other roms, so let that worry be removed.
C: Even with the 2 medium-level bugs and several text bugs I've found, this thing has been great so far, and, after the last fix, it should be better than about 75-80% of the translations I've seen/played on the net, so I don't think you have much to hang your heads about.

I'll also run through DQ1, because I found one noticable bug there just playing with it, I'll try to be done with all of it by Wednesday, maybe tomarrow if things are faster than I thought.

Oh, someone really needs to help me with this one confusing translation.
This game has two Cloaks of Wind.
There's the one in the tower that you use to pass the Dragon's Horn, and the translation is referring to the item that you make with the Dew's Yarn and Magic Loom as the Cloak of Wind, also (DW lore refers to these as the Water Flying Clothes). I haven't yet gotten the yarn and loom to make the item, but everyone who's telling me about it is calling it the cloak of wind..which would be incredibly confusing to anyone who doesn't already know the game, since you have a cloak of wind (from the tower) already. I'm going to guess that the item itself has been changed to the DW lore since my names seem to be all DW versions, but the dialogue text from people in town still says 'Cloak of Wind'. I'll try to get screenshots, but I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this.

I did finally pick up the yarn and the loom and make the Water Flying Clothes and that is what the object itself is called, but the dialogue still says 'Cloak of Wind', including the fellow who makes it for you.
Changing to the DW style names fixed the actual item name, I imagine.
I have to do some shopping (food, y'know) and stuff today, but I'll try and get cracking on finishing DQ2 this evening (I've got to do the Tower of the Moon now).
I'll probably be able to finish it tonight if I stay up late, if not that, then tomarrow morning.

Oh, two other things to mention, maybe Zeke can test these since his Prince and Princess are named differently than mine.
The few times in the game that the other party members say things (when the Prince is sick in Beran, when you take the Princess to see the King of Midenhall the first time), the names are reversed - the Prince says the Princess's lines to the King, and the Princess says the Prince's lines when he's telling you to leave him to die.
I imagine Zeke will find the same thing with his group.

Please junts if you can get a save state to brightman with the names being switched. The game uses many routines to call character names, which is why it took so long to fix. I'll do what I can - I think I'm going to have to get to the instances I can find when I play through to check for the text bugs in the first 1/4 the game that I didnt write down before, because each of these events only seems to happen once and I accidently saved over the state I had before I did them.
That's no biggie though because I know how to get to each pretty easily.
Oh, and one caution with the Cloak of the Winds thing - there are a couple times when people talk to you about the -real- cloak of the winds, and I hope those didn't accidently get changed to flying water clothes, too.
I have a savestate for one of the two name switches, I'll email it to Brightman with a screenshot.

I finished DQ1 and talked to everyone in every town and ran through the ending, so I think I've found all there is to find there.
I still have to re-finish DQ2 and talk to everyone there - I found that stupid nun with her infinate repeating text bug in the Monolith of Rhone after I finished and I hadn't saved state after killing Malroth, so I didn't feel like doing it again.
One concern, however.
I managed to find a Revival Orb (This was called the Dragon's Potion in the NES DW version of the game), which allows you to get exp info/save anywhere (they drop from metal babbles).
The text was somewhat garbled, missing spaces (Kain needs 23432experience..) and there were several fragments of dialogue attached to the end, and I don't know if they were just confusing as #### or if they were fragments from elsewhere because I've never managed to find one of these before.
I think someone should look into the dialogue strings that get called when you use the item.
I might also suggest another name, because Revival Orb doesn't really suggest anything in regards to what it actually does.

One more thing causing me concern.
When a DQ1 char gets to lv 30 (the max level), the King no longer tells you your exp to level, he says 'You're surely strong enough to defeat the Dragonlord now.'
I also found that after he said this, he -no longer offered to save the game-. *Is this the way it's supposed to be? it seems kinda odd to me, that you can't save the game if you max your level.
I'm gonna see if I can transfer my savestate to DQ1Jap and see if it does the same thing.
Okay, I did, and while the transfer state garbled alot of command and object names, the dialogue was all still in pure Japanese when I played it on the Jap rom (naturally), and the King did offer to save my game (and I know that what he said before that in Jap was essentially "You're strong enough, go kill him now."
So that's a pretty serious bug, not being able to save if you hit level 30.

I have had more problems than you can count on your hands and your feet with this particular section of dialogue. The saving and dying dialogue is all mixed up together with relative pointers, substrings, and other types of pointers. I say just have the king say one thing. "I will never tell you how much you need to go up a level, and you can never save the game. Use save states. Oh, and if you died - try better." *http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif *That would solve the whole thing. This game sucks with its text systems, and pointers. I couldn't figure out if it was badly translated, a fragment from some other dialogue, or if it was supposed to be Rubiss or Erdrick talking to me, or something..I seem to recall a fragment of very similar dialogue in the ending someplace, but I couldn't find it when I went back through it.

But I have gone through the whole text(and ficed all the other things in it), and it is basically supposed to let you save anywhere(So the text is very similar to a kings or priests).
