DQ12 I ran into a few crashing bugs. That would make testing a real pain. because the crashes are every time a name is used in dialogue. So I wanted to fix that up before I sent it out to be tested I promise youll get it soon. But Ive been trying to get the menu issues fixed and the compression for FF2 release. But no luck yet. So As soon as I get the FF2 patch put together as it is, I will fix this bug in DQ12 and mail out the patch to you testers. You all know who you are. And please no more requests to be a tester. All slots are full.
And FF2... to continue my technical difficulties... I got Squall Alphas work *and RPGTess' work. Had a computer crash, and needless to say, lost RPGTess' work. I am waiting for him to send *me the work again. And then I will be combining everything into 1 patch for RPGTEss to make a few small changes. I guess he wants to release it right after that. So for all you impatient people out there. It will probably be *at least* 1 more day now.

Okay I resent my file to Chris. The release should be tomorrow! Chris has a great idea on how it will work but I will let him explan in th readme. Basically, this release will be v.95 that will be the Stage 1 release that may have line breaking errors and such (nothing serious at all). The v1.0 will follow after all line and spelling errors are corrected. Anyway, keep checking the board tomorrow!

Yup, I just sent him the Readme file with the v0.95 info. It should make it clear that there are still bugs.

Hey bright, I am a bit confused on something. What constitues a 'bug' in a patch? I asssumed that it was things that made the game crash. Can bugs be simple things like incoreect text output or overrunning lines? Or are these just 'errors'?

Bugs are anything that can conflict in game play, it can be mispelt words, bad grammar, and what not. But it also can be things that crash the game. No one wants to play a game that you choose "Nwe Game" to start.

I'd define "bug" as an unintended effect which interferes with playing the game, usually crashing, but also like the FF6 "Sketch" effect that gives lots of items.
I'd call spelling errors just that, spelling errors.

Yeah I called the messed up menu spelling bugs because you spelled it right, and it came out wrong. I guess some spelling errors are typos, but some come out wrong even if they are entered right, and that's why they are bugs.

When working with a Romhack, anything can be classified as a "Bug" trust me you can screw up a lot of things with a simple spelling error.

YAY! Strago got a nice little avatar * http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
Updates...
DQ12.. I sent it out as it is to the lead tester brightman. Hes in charge of contacting all you testers out there, and collecting and collating the error reports. And sending the ips and assigning who will work on which game. Hes sent you all an email already. So Beta testing phase has officially begun! http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cwm12.gif Not sure how long the beta testing will take, or how long it will be to fix everything, and implement a startup screen. But its a lot closer now...
FF2 I have succesfully combined some really great works by RPGTess and Squall into one patch. RPTess wants to fix a few text errors, then it should be ready to release, tonite hopefully, if nothing bad crops up. *http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Hello everyone!! well I have a request, It may seem kind of odd but anyways. Could anyone of you guys (Translation Team) send me the english tralated scrip of final fantasy 2 game in a txt file so I can translate it into spanish? The reason is that I have a whole bunch of spanish speaking friends that are crazy about the final fantasy series and I would like to make a spanish guide and a translated script with it to them. Also It would be great if you released a spanish version of the patch, if I knew how to hack a rom and insert text on it I would do it myself. I offer my help if you guys decided to make a spanish translation patch. Well it would be great if you guys can send me the script, if not I will understand. (I don't know japanese, English - Spanish only)

Hmm I'm not sure I think you can pretty much get by with the nes translation, but I'm not sure. I think some others here probably know more about it than I. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Sadly I can offer no other help.... http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

The script is not ready yet. Stage 1 of the translation did not utilize a script, since it was manually entered instead of using text file insertion.

Hey Bright, what do you mean? I may have inserted text, but I had to rewrite all the dialogue I came across in order to fit. A large majority of the text in the game is text that I personally wrote:) I adapted parts of NeoDemiforce's script.

Did you save it in a file? I think that's what the guy wants, some sort of text file, all ready to go and put in spanish? I think that's what he wants.....i not positive ^^

You wouldn't have had to do that, if you had taken the time out to use Pointers. That game allows you to use as many windows as you'd like, no limit. heh heh... but i guess it just was less boring to re write a script eh?
RPGTess

The game gives you plenty of room, thank you. If the line only contains six characters, why should I write a line with twenty characters? Since you keep missing the point, Strago, this is stage 1, the UNLITERAL translation. The EXACT translation will be Stage 2.

Actually RPGTess, when you talk about scripts.. brightman is right. Scripts are texts file with the text in it from the game. We did not do stage 1 like that. It was manually entered in a hex editor. So we dont have a script right now. However All I have to do is dump the scripts from the patched rom, and then we could do a stage 1 in Spanish also. But I told the guy that I was very busy and would need a lot of help on it. It wouldnt take long to complete either. For stage 2 I have dumped the scripts in Japanese from the rom. A text file with all the dialogue from the WSC verion. Then when spspiff sends me the file back in English, I can then reinsert the file, instead of typing in manually the entire thing. By using the pointers. Much quicker, once he sends me a 100% translated script file. And easier to change around and add windows, so that english will fit correctly. Nothing will have to be shortened, just maybe worded in a more western style so that everyone can understand it. This where the script editing and formating will come in. That will be done with pointers, and will save a lot of time, and allow an accurate translation. For now the stage 1 release is fine. With an understandable story line, and 100% playable. *http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Thanks for the clarification, Chris. I am still a newbie regarding this stuff http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif BTW Chris, did the person working on FF4 WSC get back to you? He seemed quite eager.

Hi again, well all I want is the english dialogue of the game, so I could make a translation of it in spanish and by that I could make a strategy guide for the spanish people, Also I could use some practice translating stuff so I don't forget my spanish and my english gets better. Well If you guys need help for the spanish patch I would gladly help as long as I don't have to translate from japanese.

If he cant I can do it. It will only take a little time. Then the tiles have to be readjusted to add spanish letters with accents. Which still is pretty easy. And shouldnt take much time either.

Chris, does FF4 sport a new translation, or is it just like a snes port?http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I for some odd reason can not find it. But havent looked too long either. Please dont tell me where to get it on this board. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif We dont talk naughty like that. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif But there is someone who wants to do a translation for it as well, and expressed interest in RPGOne. So if they ever email me back we will be working on it as well as FF2. RPGTess is more familiar with it than I am, but I will let everyone know as soon as I know. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
