View Full Version : N64 Emulation in general

I mean how many people actually play the game on the emulators? I have tried playing Zelda 1 and 2. They play a lot better now that I have 1.4 GHz 256 MB RAM system. And a lot of games dont work at all. There's still a lot of glitches in a lot of other games. I would rather play them on the real thing. I like to play SNES and PSX emulators though... because they can improve the graphics, and sound, and they have a high compatability rate. But I imagine if I had a computer system from god, I might enjoy the N64 games on emulators more. Not that Im saying anything bad about the work thats been accomplished on the emulators and plugins. Because I think theyve come a lot further than some people expected. And their work is very hard. What would be the minimum system requirment to have an enjoyable experience with current N64 emulation?
Well from what you stated so far, your sys is perfectly fine to run N64 (BTW, what vid card u got?). I have 1.2ghz 256mb ram GF2, and I get 200+ FPS on Mario64 with frame limit off. If you're not already using Project64, i suggest u get that and 1964 while you're at it. I play PJ regulary, at least once a day. And yes, some games arent emulated perfectly, but whats been properly emulated so far is more than satisfactory IMO. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

i got a 500mhz 188mb gf2 and i get ok results 30fps roughly but hopefully getting a new cpu AMD Athlon or Pentium 4 i know the P4 isnt that great but its powerful and right and cheap so it'll do if i get the choice

I'm using an Amd T-Bird 1.33ghz 256mb ram, gf2 mx200 64mb ram and every n64 game works full fps, except when I have the pj upgrade...:p

what the #### are u talking about, theres 3 opengl plugins in the making, and 1 fantastic glide plugin. That sounds like development to me, not to mention all the various emu's that are still being continued (1964, Nemu)

As a player I use to only care when a new release came out but now I can see I am actually interested with the making of them. As you say the PSX and Snes etc are emulated much better but I recon more ppl are on the N64 scene because it's more of a challenge to emulate. I rarely contribute to the n64 emu makers but I do respect them for the work they have done and Nintendo for making the great games.
Yes I have just purchased a P4 2Ghz, 256MB Ram, GeForce 4 and PJ64 runs MoM so fast with great gfx. Much better than on my old 500Mhz and voodoo 3 any of you remember. No I cannot tell the difference between Geforce 2 and 4 mainly because I have never played with a geeforce 2 or 3. All I know is that GeForce 4 is class. So now that I have bragging rights, brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag brag! http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I guess my problem is the video card mainly. Its one of those crappy - can I say that? *http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif - intel internal cards. I guess I need to go buy one. Not sure even how to hook one up. Is that difficult? And *does it make a big difference. This is the only system that I have emulation problems with. Even the PC games are good. But I guess If I could use Open GL or something they would be even better too. And I really appreciate the hard work that all the N64 emulation authors have done. It is a very hard system to emulate properly on a PC. I can only imagine all the time that it takes.

If you're saying the n64 scene is dying, you're wrong...
There's a lot of plugins' being made around here now...
'Sides, other emus is still going as stated before.
And I'd just like to say against you... P4 sucks. You should've gotten a athlon.
