Just out of curiosity, you guys have actually asked for permission to use the NDF script, right?

it appears there is some compression involved in the menus... I am no good with that yet. Well have to try to get someone else to help with that. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cwm2.gif

Lol... What do you say to that, Gimp? http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Boy was that Whirlpool article a little rude. I am SOOOOOOOOO sorry I am 'copping' out and using an already translated script. I cannot read a lick of Japanese and I do not have the time to both find a translator and then reinsert the text. Some people are full time college students, you know? If someone wants to do translate the japanese text, fine but I do not know anybody who would take the time to do it. In fact, if someone does do that, then I would be gald to help too. I started this as a personal project and intend to finish it too. More screnshots are coming tomorrow though. See ya!

Yeah, the Whirlpool staff's like that... Just read some of the other articles they have. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cwm23.gif They couldn't even find your screenshots... But they have the best archive of game translations and they can publicize the project, so I guess there's a good side to it.

I think the point is that it should not be considered a "translation". It should be a "hack". Now let me explain why... The text being put in is from a translation that someone else did on another system. And not a "true" translation of the actual text thats in the WSC version. This is why I think that whirlpool is not so open to projects like this. Because you are technically using someone elses work. But I dont see the what is wrong with that as long as you have the authors permission, and fully credit the author of the work that you use. Just curious though.. what is the big rush to get it done so fast? As long as it is announced then you should have first rights to the translation project.

Well, you know. I am a very busy guy and I am really into this. When I start something, I like to move along quick. Besides, this is only the first step of the translation.

FF2 WSC Translation Beta: Translation of the entire game using the Old NeoDemiforce script as basis

FF2 WSC Tran. Final: Translation of the entire game using
           translated text

Plus, the translation is really moving along:)

This is good! I got some help today from Neil who's working on FF1. And Although compression is really not my thing, it will be when I'm done with this. hehe. But from what I know already its not a complicated compression algorythm. So it shouldnt give to many migraines. Anyone wanna donate some excedrin Migraines? http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Here's the deal everyone. stage 1 to just make it playable with Neo demiforce's translation put in. Then stage 2 an actual translation. which should make everyone happy. Being an avid fan of the whole series, I would play it twice. Whirlpool also said nothing official from me on my site. But it is official, just I dont want to waste my time updating the site, when I have a new one coming hopefully this weekend and a full huge update on all RPGONE stuff will be posted then. And I can spend the time updating that. As I have noone to handle that aspect of RPGONE yet. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Yes, wraith, RPGTess has gotten the permission directly from the author. it would be kind of messed up to use it without asking...don't you think??http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/alien.gif

By the way wraith, I cant post on your board at all. So I would have let everyone know. But I guess becasue of firewall or something, I always get an error, and the same with a lot of other boards like Zophar.

Yeah, I think you have to email him (or Spinner8 or wraith or someone else i think) if you want to post at their board.

BTW, you found the screenies WP guys!! Congratulations!

I'm glad everyone understands what thsi project is about. Just remember, if you know anyone who wants to translate the text, PLEASE ask them if they want to.

BTW Perhaps i will translate FF3 when it eventualllly comes out

brightman
04-18-2002, 06:15 PM
Yup, a translation of FF3 would be the greatest http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

BTW since you said "as basis" are you just transferring ND's script to the new version or are you modifying it a bit, since the WSC version can hold more dialogue (NES version can only should one unscrollable screen of text)?

RPGTess
04-19-2002, 12:22 PM
Modifying. I know the story very well so i can add a few words hear and there that conform to the orginal NES script. Then when I recieve a translated scipt of the WSC version, I can simply change them.

brightman
04-19-2002, 03:03 PM
Yup, that's what i was hoping you would do. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Good luck!

noone got permission from me. *here's what happened:

i heard about this kid RPGTess and his project to translate ff2 using my group's scripts, but suprisingly i hadn't heard a word from him yet. so i sent him and email basically saying that if he wanted to use my work he should really ask permission first. i got a reply, where he was basically downplaying the entire stealing thing, saying to me he wasn't really using my text at all, just general ideas and things. yet i see text in his screenshots remarkably close to my own...

i would get all mad since he wouldn't ask me even when i confronted him about it, but it's just a translation. and besides, projects of this mentality never usually go anywhere anyhow...

Now I am just a tad upset! I had no idea that the full permission was not granted to use Neo Demiforces work. RPTess, we all deserve an explanation please. I dont see how we con proceed with stage 1 without the express authorization from Neo Demiforce. And he didnt give that to you.

Neo Demiforce is a long standing, respected member of the the scene for a while now. And I dont wanna step on his toes. Or use anyones work without their permission first and foremost. Thats not what RPGONE stands for, or what I want RPGONE to be known for. We can do this without using any of his stuff. It will just take a little while longer and more work. We already have a staff member now, Devoid(erik), who can translate Japanese, and I have another Japanese to English translator lined up (SpSpiff). And most scripts dumped and ready to translate.

I'm not sure how to proceed, brightman please PM me when you read this.

I have emailed Neo Demiforce, saying that I didnt know that permission was not asked for before RPGTess started using the scripts. And told him I'd consider dropping the stage1 portion, because we can have the scripts translated ourselves in a while.

Stay tuned for project news.....
