Its done! I have beaten the game and have translated the ending. After a little checking and such, Chris and I will combine Squall's work with mine and have the complete patch. I am not sure how I will handle this release as I believe that there are very few spelling errors and hardly any overlengthy text strings this time around. Perhaps we will just release the final patch for everyone. if not, be ready beta testers!

Great, but I might still wait for stage 2, before I really play FF2.
Congrats on your completion of a tremendous undertaking. *high fives*
My personal vote is for a general release of the patch, but if you are not inclined to do so I would be more than happy to help with any beta testing as I have nearly infinite free time ( aka I'm a jobless-slaker ^_^ ).
Can't wait till you finish your DQ1+2 translation and I'm egarly anticipating the Slayers translation.

Well, if I can accurately check over all the text like I plan to do over the next few days and make sure everything is A-OK, we will probably release the final patch early without beta testing. I know people are anxiousy awaiting the patch and I hate to delay them. However, I do not want to release a rushed job. Chris and Squall hve worked too hard:)

If we can get some beta testing done, like right away. it shouldnt take long at all to get the first release out. I am quite confident, because RPGTess has gotten much better at the insertion method as he went along, so most errors are in the begining. Beta testers please send me what you have already in the reports. We need them as soon possible.

http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cwm4.gif yea. the game is done. have you made up your mind as if you are going to release the patch or beta test it first? you shouldn't of posted it was done because everyone is going to invade this board and tell you to release it now.

Good to hear. I haven't progressed much from the last time I sent in a beta update so I won't be sending anything in. I think it'll be better if we do a beta test for the final patch, since you're still combining works right now. But I'm just speaking my part as the "Lead Beta Tester" http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Isn't there a petition somewhere to bring the wonderswan to the US? I would like to sign that. This game looks so much better on WSC. And other games too.
brightman

Yeah, I just don't see why Bandai doesn't want to release the Swan Crystal in the US. I am sure they'd get more developers if they do that, plus all the FF fans would buy it... That should be enough to take a chunk out of the GBA's share, especially with the older gamers (since there seems to be a conception that GBA is for kiddies)
The petition is here: http://www.petitiononline.com/wsc/
the wsc is barely alive in japan and due in large part (if not totally) to the support from square with such major titles as final fantasy and the like. I find it very unlikely that the american market would support any console for just one major franchise...even if it is final fantasy. besides you guys have gone above and beyond with your work on this game so I'm kinda happy its not here in the usa or you probably wouldn't have even botherd.

cough cough Working Desgns cough cough
I mean, it took me three weeks to translate this game (yes, translate, Strago. I gave up using the NeoDemiforce script word for word and actually spent time rewriting new dialogue to conform to the situations and the amount of space) and even then I did not have alot of time (ie college, life, work, Yankees games:):) How could they all work 9-5 on translating a game and still take literally years between projects? They should just hire more people or stop spending hours trying to improve games that have little faults to begin with. Look how fast FFX came out here with a SUPERB translation and dubbing.
BTW Chris, now that the PS2 has gone down to $199, I hope you will get FFX!

For a while it shared 10% of the handheld market which is just about the highest percentage by a GB rival ever. Don't forget that the Gameboy hardware outsells EVERY other hardware in the world. All your PCs, consoles, whatever are outsold by the GB. So 10% of the market is exceptional in that case.
But of course, this is all due to Square's intervention. So you're right, now that Square's working with nintendo again there's really no reason to get the Bandai handhelds other than for the other FF games on that system.
And boy RPGTess, you guys are indeed quick. 3 weeks to fully translate the game, unlike the other groups out there.

it outsells everything because its hella cheap, functional, and portable http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
also it just proves my point that square is the key to any systems survival (just think about)

yeah I hate working designs work, IMHO they infact RUIN games not translate them and they do it at an amazingly slow pace......the word "agony" comes to mind. which is why I got all the japanese versions of the games before they got thier naughty lil' hands on them.
FF10 just gets better and better everytime I play it, the quality really shows in that game. I can't wait for Kingdom Hearts (and with the new price drop I won't have to http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ). Actually, the WSC and SC are cheaper than GBC/GBA, more functional--requiring only one battery and has more buttons, and it's just as portable.
The only thing GBA has over WSC is not any of those reasons you mentioned, but merely the fact that the GBA has MANY MANY MANY MORE GAMES. That just shows that when it comes to consoles and handhelds, its quantity over quality.

Depends on whether you use the cheap, easy way to level up or the hard way. If you use the hard way, you'll need 60+ hours to level up to RPGTess's stats... Otherwise, I can't say, but it still took me a while to get to 900 HP (10 hours)

60 hours, are you kidding? Gaze at this baby. Okay, it is a little misleading. I knew where eveything is and what to do so it look me less time. As for leveling stats, there are tricks to use...Of course, that is part of the fun!
Regarding the patch, I am just about done going over everything. The only part I am concerned about is that some things that are translated will not show up bc the game has a mirroring text for it. I think I have fixed all of them, however. Basically, my work is done. Chris really wants to change the battle commands as they are a little screwed up and I need Squall's item descriptions done. Hopefully, by Friday, we will be ready to go! All the people who posted here will be beta testers, so don;t sweat. We are about to go public very soon!
BTW Brightman and Tick, excellent job on the beta reports. I have fixed them all!

i read a nes faq you take damage to get HP. do damage to raise your attack and use magic to raise you magic levels. but in the WSC version if you run from a battle or leave the battle with a status alignment do you lose all of your stats you accuired like in the NES version.
here is a great way to lvl up your peeps ^_^

1. encounter a uber-weak enemy
2. have the party melee attack themselves till they are in critical status
3. have the party cast heal on themselves

Uh...sure, if you want to take many trips to the temple when you accidently kill each other! HP only goes up once after battle so only do this if you want high HP and high MP. that's what the life spell is fo' http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
and if you hit yourself your def. and str. should increase on a more constant rate together. also by putting yourself in critical status you should gain more life more often.
and btw uber-weak enemies are dependent of your current power and the fact that a group of 6 enemies will have at least one straggler for enough time for you to lvl up.
yes magical lvls go up hella slow. my tip is to get the holy spell asap.
brightman
05-16-2002, 05:18 PM
And one thing I notice is that Magic in this game sux... Even if you keep raising your intelligence. Oh well.
Hitting yourself is indeed a good strategy though, I do it all the time. The trick is to use the right weapons to attack the right characters and HP should go up pretty quickly that way.
RPGTess
05-16-2002, 06:49 PM
Very true. * Just keep hitting your charcters until they lose 60% of their HP and they almost always gain HP at the end of the battle. * BTW Magic is not useless in FF2. *Having high magic levels easily decimates even the mighiest foes in the early portions of the game. * Fire Lv. 12 does 2500 damage to a dragon at Jade. *Regular attack with Sword Lv 10 Excalibur is 245. *With Rune and Posion Ax, 210, 45. *With two Holy Lances, 250, 250. *Having high Fire, ice, and Bolt magic is key to mastering the game. *After you get Ultima, then Flare, Holy, and Ultima become the most important spells. *Of course, they pale in comparision to the mighiest weapon of all: The Blood Sword!!!

But what if he's having problems right now. You can't rush him if he's busy or trying to fix the patch.

Thank you for making FFII WSC playable.
BUGS:
You get garbled text when you don't have enough money for the Airship also.
There is an extra "l" in Frioniel's name during the scene that Ming-Wu leaves the party.
More to come as I find them.
EDIT: The idiot above me seems to love posting SPAM.

Thanks for reporting! BTW FG is a friend of ChrisRPG (I think), so he seems to get special treatment... But nevertheless, no spamming please http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Yah I know I apologize for the SPAM.....
Also, yah I'm a friend of ChrisRPG. Neoflame disappeared last year, who was working on DQ12r. So, I picked the game up and was going to insert SpSpiffs translated text(but it wasn't a text dump - it was by hand). My ASM guy was Byuu, and he was rather abusive(even if he may have meant well), so I parted ways with him and he teamed up with Chris here. And Chris and I have been friends even before that happened. That basically explains me i think?
On another funny note, I joined the romhacking scene way back with Strag0 as Unstable Translations. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cwm12.gif
