Well, more good news at 3am. I always do my best stuff at this time of the day! heh... http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif I have dumped the fonts for slayers. I thought they were variable height or something weird, but they are not. They are 1bpp 16x14. That was what made it look so funny in a graphics veiwer. most graphics veiwers show 8x8 tiles by default. But They have been dumped, and a new font is being worked on. Of course I am also trying to code a variable width font routine of my own. We will see how that goes, because I never have coded a complete VWF routine before. I have just modified ones that already existed. Hopefully it wont be too hard. *http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I found how and where the menus are stored. *I am sure some menu layouts will have to be redone to fit the english translation. Found some dialogue also, and it isn't compressed so far. Things planned for this cool game -
1) Item name expansion (Item menus have 2 items per line. I will be changing it to 1 item per line so a full english translation can fit.)
2) Spell names expansion (1 per line instead of default of 2 so longer spell names will fit.)
3) Expansion of most menus to fit the full english translation.
4) Redo the dialogue font to a Variable Width Font(maybe 8x12 or 8x16 instead of default of 16x14), to allow for more english letters per text box.
5) Rom expansion to allow for full English translation.
This is just to start off with. But more resaerch has to be done, and the scripts completely dumped(so I can hunt for a translator while I work on all the other things.) before any real progress can be made on these things.
Also I just found a major portion of the dialogue and it is not compressed. That means there is only 1 compresssion issue. 1 font used is compressed. But that has already been dealt with, so this game will progress nicely. The pointers are standard pointers, in an actual table unlike dq12. So changing things should be much easier and less time consuming than dq12. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I am replying to my own replies. Hmmmmm. oh well.
I am so excited about this game. I have already expanded 2 menus, and now I have to try to totally redo the battle menus layout. There is not enough space for a word in one little box that fits only 1 kanji in it. But Im sure it wont be that hard. I have already dumped about 10% of the dialogue. the rest is coming soon. So now that dq12 is winding up for a release very very soon, my other projects should move along much faster now! http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

What's slayers RPG about anyways?

well there is no projected date yet. but I know it wont take 1 to 2 years like DQ12 did. From what I have found already in the game, its gonna be much easier to hack! It is an RPG game based on the characters in the anime Slayers. Its a cool game. I have played some of the Japanese version, but now I will wait til its all done and Ihave to test it before releasing it. *I dont want to give an estimated release, because with my luck, something major will pop up and get in the way of a release, like not being able to find a translator. Once I have a set of returned translated english scripts, I can have a better idea of how long it will be before a release. I dont want to release a partial patch. But a high quality version 1.0 patch. I hope everyone can be a little more patient with me, but you should see a lot more progress in the next month. Brightman and I have been working hard on dq12 to get it out and out of the way.

Yup, I think thats the hentai game that we were considering before (tho the PSX and SFC versions weren't hentai, the DK series was a hentai series for DOS)
I think someone's working on the PC version already... I think thats more... interesting than the SFC version... http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif *http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

BSX Dragon Quest was released for the satalaview system. it is basically a 'shareware' version of DQ1 that expires in 59 minutes. And the coding is slightly different than the DQ12R version, as my PAR codes are not the same. It would probably be easy for someone to translate it, if they were to get Chris's notes.

Hey Chris, I am a Slayers fanatic. I mean, I have over 70 episodes of the series:) If you need me for text insertion or beta testing, I am up for it http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/abduct.gif

RPGTess I hope you mean that! *http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif I really will need some help down the road. Especially when I get a full set of English scripts. They will need to be edited first before we can insert them. Dont know how far down the road this is, but your help will be greatly accepted and appreciated! *http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Plus if youre that much of a fan, you can help me with names of people items and spells. Ill let you know as soon as I get it to that point. FF2 also has to be done, so it will be a little while.

Well there can be hacks around the 59 minute thing, similar to the one for BS Zelda, so if you can hack, who knows.

Oh yeah, that would work too... http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif But if it just takes a PAR code, you can just change that address in the rom instead. ;)

I have done some PAR codes for slayers ( http://www.mtgcraft.com/yavapai....PAR.txt (http://www.mtgcraft.com/yavapai/dquest/files/index.cgi?file=Slayers_PAR.txt) ), I hope to finish the list when there is a playable rpg1 patch.

Of course you were already picked a little while ago. I think with all the support I have for this game we will have a very nice patch for it. Thats Zeke_D, Tick, RPGTess, and Brightman all wanting to help with it, thanks guys.

Let me ask something... Has anyone ever completed the game? I mean playing it? I know it has a bad track record with people translating it, just as bad as dq12 did. But we finished that one, so I know we can finish this one too. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Car trouble...What a pain. I remember when my car's transmission blew at midnight before my final psychology stats test. Yikes. Oh well, I still aced the test:)
Anywho, I played some of the game and it looks great. It's story kinda mirors the Next series bc Fibrizzo is in it but it deals with cloning and stuff. BTW Do you watch the dub or sub? I have such a large collection of anime and it is all dubbed. Slayers, though, is tied with Evangelion as the best dubbed series out there. I love Lisa Ortiz! She makes Lina really come alive. I even have a signed poster from her (won it in a chat with her when I was first to answer the name of the spirit Deedlit summons when they fight Karla in RoLW)
Nuff said. Back to FF8 and Warcraft 3 (and FF2 when the compression is resolved)

Ok now script dumps at 75% and the font is working much better. (I have been modifying the vwf routines I coded). Look for a news update with screenshots soon after the release of dq12. *http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Also I am gonna try to make the font for menus VWF too. It would look much better, but I dont know if its possible yet. I will try my best tho. *http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
ChrisRPG

I just found out the game has a semi auto scrolling text routine already! This is great, because with a few modifications, it will make the English translation much easier. We wont have to manually put in line breaks and paragraph breaks and and stuff for every string. *http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/abduct.gif The more I work on this game, the more I like it. It is so much easier than dq12. *http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif It even has real pointers, in a mostly organized table.
Also I can make the font any size now. SO any suggestions for fonts are greatly welcome (Zeke-D?)! I never have had an artistic flair for fonts. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Well for a standard font, I have liked Trebuchet MS, it is much like the font in the mel gibson movie 'Signs'.
but there are 2 fonts already in other SNES RPGs that might look nice, check out Super Mario RPG:
http://yavapai.mtgcraft.com/dquest/SMRPG.GIF
Or the font from Chrono Trigger:
http://yavapai.mtgcraft.com/dquest/CHRONO.GIF
And if you wanna be nuts, use my alchemy font:

Ok more notes on the game. I was told by someone in the scene (very well known) that this game is being worked on already by someone else in the scene. If this is the case and you are the group/individual doing it, then I did not want to step on your toes. I checked all the sites, and all I found was dead projects for it, or inactive for 1-2 years and no website to boot. If you can contact us somehow(crisrpg@bellsouth.net), please do. And I will drop it. I have done a lot of work on this game already and no more will be done until this issue is resolved.

Ok I emailed him. We will see what he says. I didnt see it listed though as an active project anywhere on his site before when I first checked out the game as a new project. Which is what prompted me to work on it. it appeared that he wasnt doing it anymore. Oh well. We will see. But I still have lots of other things to work on while I wait for a response. Like FF2 compression and menus that have weird programming. I am also gonna try to expnad the menus that need it a little. We'll see how that goes.
