PSX emulators are a little different. Most of the time you'll want to just play the PSX games straight off your CD instead of downloading a rom. You can play off an ISO too, but most of the time they are too big (for HD space, for download, etc.) if you want a lot of them.

Other than that, if you get ePSXe (the best PSX emulator), you'll have to download plugins and bios for it to work. Plus it'll take a while to configurate if you want it to look good.

Yup, I agree http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

PSX emulators make most games look 200% better than the original.

Yeah, like I said, *most* of the time. Some full version PSX games are only 10 MBs, so it really depends on whether the movies are ripped (can save up to 600 MBs) and on whether the game have FMVs or not.

But if you want to download full version Final fantasy VIII, you'll have to be prepared for a long wait, even on broadband connection.

You need to do some configurating for FFVII to look decent.

As for FFVIII and FFIX though, they look great on ePSXe too.

The only FF game that looks like crap on ePSXe is FF4 of FFChronicles... That game's seriously messed up on it.

So ePSXe is the best emulator around... Got that.

Now my real problem is to find a decent BIOS for playing JAPANESE games. No, I don't want links, rather if anyone has experience on which BIOSes work, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thing is, I own Front Mission 2 & 3 and Tokimeki Memorial 1 & 2 original japanese versions (bought 'em off eBay), and I'd really like to play them (big surprise). I could buy a PS1 cheap and mod it, but since I 1] already own a decent computer (1.4GHz, 512 RAM, GF3Ti200) 2] do NOT own a TV, I figured that emulators would be the way to go.

Also, any information on working PS2 emulators and BIOS versions would be appreciated, since I also got Tokimeki Memorial 3...

Thank You,

SCPH1001 works with Japanese games. Japan uses the NTSC format too so there shouldn't be a problem unless those games aren't supported by the emulator.

I tweaked the settings a bit and FF7 looks alot better now. Haven't tried FF8 or 9 on ePSXE. But still now swirl effect.

In order to get the FF7 swirl you need these settings:

Quote

- First of all: the FF7 battle swirls are now working (they should have
been working in 1.58 already, but a last minute fix disabled them).
You have to enable the FF7 special text border fix, use the highest
Offscreen Drawing setting, enable the "gfx card" frame buffer textures
and the "Framebuffer read on move" game fix is also needed (oh my).
The performance of the effects will (as always) depend how good
your card is supporting framebuffer accessing. [/b][/quote]
