Any one reading this know of any good psx emulators that work with windows xp? I've tried bleem and connectix vgs
but they're both not compatible.

tried ePSXe ?...

ZeroX

Yeah I tried it. When I tried to run it it said I needed to configure the video. I tried but I don't know how.
Does Bleem have a windows xp update? I have the full version but it's not compatible.

neither VGS or Bleem will run on XP .

Configuring the video plugin on ePSXe is sometimes a pain but little testing will get things working .
Just download the latest Pete's GPU plugins and use Petes D3D Driver V1.59 , its one of the best video plugins.

Here's a snapshot of my settings :

If that dont work , post your computer specs on here and what game your trying to run.

Umm... People, why are you using emulated VRAM and not Full VRAM primitives? Those two are meant to be used in conjunction.

And there aren't really a perfect setting for any two games. I use a different setting in each game to get optimum compatibility, and then I store the settings in ePSXecutorso I can switch back and forth anytime. It's mostly trial and error for each game.

the settings i use work for DBGT Final Bout, Thrasher Skate And Destroy, Chrono Cross, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2, and Xenogears... well those are the only games ive tried playin on ePSXe...

I've been looking all over for a playstation bios image(scph1001.bin). I can't find any on all the sites I checked.
Can someone please email me one or give me a URL where I can download it. I already have a playstation so it's legal for
me to have the bios. I just want to play the games on my pc.

Yeah well, those settings aren't the best for those games. Out of the games you listed I only tried Chrono Cross, but using your settings there are some minor graphics problems, and the battle swirl effect doesn't show up.

metaphysics
03-24-2002, 08:13 PM
what swirling effect ?...

brightman
03-24-2002, 09:27 PM
The swirling effect that occurs when you encounter an enemy. With your settings it's either a black screen or something screwy.

Anyway, all I am saying is that either you turn VRAM primitives on and get full effect (but slows down your comp if it is slow... It's fine here though) or turn on GFX card buffer.

Man the settings for that ps emulator are confusing as hell!
I tried to play Vagrant story, chrono cross, and Einhander with it. Einhander worked the best on all the settings I used, but the cinema sequences in all the games were screwed up.
Everything was going fast and there was no sound.
When I was playing chrono cross the game was either moving very fast or slow. Vagrant story was making crazy sounds and
so was Einhander. How do you people put up with this emulator? They should make it simple and run smoothly.
Am I getting all these problems because of my pc? It's pretty new and fast(1.2ghz, 256 mb) but my graphics card isn't all that good but OK.

Did you even attempted to look at the settings? ePSXe is a hassle to get working but once it's done it's one of the best emulators (and plugins) ever made.

The problems you mentioned are due to your failure to set a FPS Limit. Go to your GFX plugin and set the FPS limit to auto. Get a good SPU plugin like Eternal SPU and turn on SPU IRQ in the plugin.

BTW what IS your GFX card? That's one of the most important thing to consider when you set ePSXe up.

And the avatar can be chosen if you go to Your Control Panel.

My gfx card is an intel 82815, I think.
So all i need to do is set a fps limit and EVERYTHING
will be alright?

Umm... Gimp, he's card is an onboard graphic card as well.

Anyway, since you GFX card doesn't look like a 3d card, I would suggest you get the P.e.O.p.S Soft Plugin (sheesh, why can't it remain Pete's Soft plugin...?), which would lack the 3d acceleration but will in most parts solve most of your graphic problems, since there's almost no settings there other than your average emulator settings. So get the Soft Plugin, set the FPS limit and the resolution and whether you want it to be full screen or windowed, and you should be done with that for a while.

But don't forget that you still need to configure your SPU plugin, and I recommend the Eternal SPU--just make sure you set SPU IRQ ON in the Plugin and OFF for the emulator. As for the buffer size in that plugin I use 12, which gives me perfect sound without any cracks or static in the audio.

And as for the CD-ROM Plugin, you either use the ePSXe Win9x plugin for Win9x-ME and WinNT Plugin for WinNT-2k-XP.

Lastly you will want to use SCPH1001.BIN as your BIOS if you live in North America or Japan, or SCPH7502 if you live in Europe.

yah i guess i posted mine right after he posted... my Onboard works pretty damn good tho... everythin runs fine on it ...

brightman
03-26-2002, 02:51 PM
OK, in that case maybe he can run some 3d gfx too. I don't know... When I had an on-board I never dreamed I could run a PSX emulator in my comp...

ZeroX
03-26-2002, 04:34 PM
I don't know what on board means, but the graphics are good on my pc. When I play my Max Payne the graphics look as good as Dreamcast.
When I want to emulate psx games I want the graphics to be accelerated. And because I have on board graphics then what plugin or settings are the best?

brightman
03-26-2002, 05:41 PM
Read my (earlier) post for info on which plugin to choose.

BTW onboard means your graphics card comes attached to the motherboard.

metaphysics
03-26-2002, 07:06 PM
yah Onboard arent really Graphics Cards... they are just the things that regular family computers come with...

brightman
03-26-2002, 07:16 PM
True, it's more like a chip on the motherboard.

u guys, nvidia just launched it's version of a geforce 2 (and possibly 3) on board gfx, so it's just like having the sepearate card on your mainboard, but...I wouldn't trust the gfx http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

i dont have that... but my Onboard is pretty good... look at my screens of NHL 2002...

Oh I gotta ask...
First off, I find Pete's soft plugin much better than the DirectX or OpenGL renderes even though I've got GeForce2. They fix most problems and run faster. The only annoying problems is that the sprites are ugly.

And secondly, that P.e.o.p.s. or whatever the name was, is actually MUCH slower than Pete's and does the same thing but with support for recording, so why use it?

I use the pete's Open GL plugin. work fine with my geforce 2 mx400. and i use epsxecuter thing too. cause every game (at least of my computer) need different settings

Peops is the same as Pete's, just an updated version. And it doesn't seem to run any slower. Try checking your settings (maybe you turned recording on or something)

I'm interested in buying a gfx card. Which one do you guys recommend?

metaphysics
03-27-2002, 08:34 PM
well how much money are u willing to spend ?...

brightman
03-28-2002, 06:46 AM
If you running short on money, get a GeForce 2 MX (~$50), GeForce 2 Ti (~$100) ATI Radeon 7500/GeForce 2 GTS (~$120). If you're willing to spend more get a GeForce4 or a Radeon 8500DV
which is around $300-400. Note that starting now, many *PC* games will be using technology the GF2 no longer supports, so if you're a PC gamer get GF3 or above.

ZeroX
03-28-2002, 07:44 PM
I don't want to spend hundreds so I'll probably get a geforce
2 or 3. I noticed that most of you have a Geforce 2 MX.
Is it a good gfx card? I saw a 64mb one on ebay for only $50.
If it isn't, I'll probably get a Geforce 3 or ATI card.

One last question: Is it hard to install a video card?

brightman
03-28-2002, 08:06 PM
As I said, a lot of newer games use technology that's beyond the GeForce 2's capabilities, so get something newer. I want to get a new one too but I don't have the money http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

And all you have to do when you install a video card is to open u your computer and put the card in a slot... No biggie.

ZeroX
03-28-2002, 08:22 PM
Thanks for your help. I just got a Geforce 2 MX400 64mb w/tv
out. I hope the installation goes fine. I don't care if the newer pc games don't use the geforce 2 technology. As long as the graphics are better than what I'm using now. Besides,
the newer games will need to somehow work with geforce 2
even if it wasn't optimized for it, right?

The Player of Doom
03-29-2002, 01:14 PM
Mmkay... first off: If the PC-games use technology beyond the GF2, they have to sue 'em-selfs, 'cuz i'm not gonna upgrade 'til the princes go down.
And 'bout the plugin, recording is *off* and it's the same settings as in the old one, and it runs nice in the old one, but not the new one.

brightman
03-29-2002, 03:50 PM
Hmm... Myabe it's your computer then. If I set FPS limit off (so that I get maximum speed with the plugin), I get the same speed as when I did that for Pete's, so there's no slowdown here.
