View Full Version : ePSXe sound problems - Japanese games

<font color='#000000'>I'm running the newest version of ePSXe, 1.52 (I think), through ePSXecutor 1.0.5.2, and have tried using both Pete's and Eternal's sound plugins. Soundcard is SB Audigy. My games are original Japanese PSX games, and I'm reading them through a Plexwriter 24/10/40A. My BIOS file is SCPH1001.

Regular sound effects and ingame musics work. What DOESN'T work is as follows: Front Mission 2&3 have no musics and sounds in starting demos. Tokimeki Memorial 1&2 lacks the "Konami jingle" in the start, &nbsp;demo/musicvideo sounds, and, most importantly, speech.

I thought this might be related to the fact that I can't play regular audio CDs on the drive, since it's not coupled to my soundcard. I made an image file of Tokimemo 1 with CloneCD, but the sounds mentioned above still don't work, leading me to speculate that there might be some support problems in the plugins. I've fudged around with the plugin settings, but nothing seems to work.

I greatly appreciate any help,

<font color='#000000'>so you didn't download and burn the gme, because if you did there is a good chance it was riped, the reason people do this is to save space.</font>

<font color='#2BA6C5'>i think he said he was running the Original Jap. Games so its prob. not an ISO/BIN... anyway when you configure the sound plugin there are 2 options that u can enable (Enable XA sound and Enable SPU IRQ) try it with one of those options checked because i found out that the music in Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4 doesnt play unless you turn XA Sound on</font>

<font color='#000000'>Got VGS Connectix 1.4 from a friend, and PRESTO! Everything works just peachy! Finally I can enjoy my Tokimemos the way they were supposed to be! ... Even though it plays a bit choppier than on a real PSX.

I'll probably post the following in a new thread, but:
If the voices don't play on ePSXe, but they do on VGS Connectix without any fooling with sound plugins, wheres the problem? Is it just a setting I missed when messing around with ePSXe? Or is it something NOT SUPPORTED by any current sound plugins for ePSXe?

People with tech know-how, please answer... And IIRC I've tested the games with XA enabled and disabled.

<font color='#736AFF'>Well, it may just be one of those deals. In Wipeout3, the music never plays, no matter what you do. So if it works in VGS, stick with that. :/</font>

<font color='#000000'>playstation emulation is one of those funny things where one set of plugins makes one game work great but the same makes another game almost unplayable. http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
speaking of unplayable anyone fool around with the settings to get tobal no 2 goin full speed...u think it would be the vid plug or the bios, cuz ive played around with both but to no avail http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif &nbsp;http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smiley_angry.gif</font>

<font color='#000000'>Damnit, on Connectix the gfx are messed up so badly that Tokimemo1 becomes unplayable... http://www.emuxhaven.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Fortunately I discovered the thing that I had previously missed from ePSXe: I had to enable MDEC XA from BIOS options (Was messing purely with sound plugins before), and presto! Speech and sounds work properly! Still a glitch that throws lip-sync off in Tokimemo, but not sure whether it's gfx or sound related... Guess I'll need to spend some time tuning my settings.

Is there a page anywhere that lists "right" settings for games, or is it completely dependant on my own hardware? (And plugins of course...). I'd rather want to check whether my games are listed, and if not, to add my findings when I'm ready.

<font color='#000000'>NGEmu *used* to have it but I don't know if they still do... And many times settings vary due to machine speed and people's preferences. Your best bet is to experiment in your own.</font>

<font color='#000000'>You may want to check out this site : http://www.lordkane.gametribe.net/emulati....htm#GPU (http://www.lordkane.gametribe.net/emulation/configs/configurations.htm#GPU)

It may have what you need , its a great site I think.</font>

<font color='#000000'>Thanks emuxhaven and brightman, didn't solve my problem but otherwise You were a great help.

Problem follows:
In Tokimeki Memorial 1, the lipsync is off when a character speaks. More correctly, the mouth does not move at all. A minor setback, I know, but still something I'd rather have working. The sync worked on VGS Connectix. &nbsp;I ought to test Tokimemo2 as well, and see if it exhibits the same problem.

With Eternal sound plugin, I tried various syncs and SPU IRQ options, but nothing seemed to work. SPU IRQ hack was enabled in BIOS settings.

With Pete's OpenGL, I've tried all the options save the "game specific" ones listed at the very end. Most referred to a game rather than the problem caused in the game, so I don't know whether there already might be something that'd solve my problem. Guess I'll go over them during the holidays.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years to everyone!
